Hello

I'm very new to the craft of dollmaking. I've been looking around here and you all do amazing sculptures, even those who are just starting. Would be an honour to get some tips and critics from you. This is my first attempt at a clay doll and I'm also new at painting figures and applying mohair.

This baby chick doll is made of air dry clay, I had to work quite fast because it dries fast and had to had the fingers and tools wet to work properly but it's funny hehe. I painted it with acrylic paint (the typical ones used to paint warhammer figures. My boyfriend has some of these) and some tiny bits of mohair, plastic red eyes too. Ah, and wire armature wrapped with tape, of course.

It took me like 15 hours or so working every now and then.

Let me know your thoughts. Tips and critics are very welcome. I won't do any changes on this figure but they will be helpful for the next one.

Thanks everybody in advance! :)

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, I have to control better the smoothness, it's dificult to do with air dry clay, as it dries as I work with it hehe. Hope to get better with next doll.

I'm glad you like the painting, it took me like 2 long hours to paint, hope to get faster with the practice and time :)

Ops, looks like someone has deleted the spam post. It's better like this. American style ribs have nothing to do with this baby chick :D hehe

Such an interesting choice of subject matter for your first.
Any particular reason?
I find these chics a little creepy, remind me of Skeksis :)
Well done on your first and come back with a second, welcome to CA!
