Hi everyone, i've been lurking and getting inspired by you guys for well over a year now, and finally decided to take the plunge and sculpt something.
so here it is, my first sculpt.
it's based on some costumes i designed a few years back in university for a play called The Birds by Aristophanes, i intended it to be a sculpt of my design for the Hoopoe, but it ended up incorporating elements from Vulture too, so i've included both of these old designs to show a sense of development.

sculpted in milliput (my first mistake) and about 6" tall. its still w.i.p. and worth noting that i used altered parts from some toys as an armature, since this is more an exercise in getting comfortable with the techniques before i progress to full sculpts from scratch.
there are plenty of areas which needed smoothing out more, and areas of cloth that need thinning out and more 'flow' but i'm generally happy with it for a first stab. any comments and crits would be greatfully received :)

enough blah, onto the pics.

very unique design, love the execution. i like the way it came out...if you didn't mention using junk parts from toye i wouldn't have noticed. you pulled it off quite well...for a first sculpt. check out my second attempt a threads below...you can see that you are a few steps ahead of me! keep it up, and congrats on a great sculpt!!

Great sculpt and great idea.

I love the way it turned out.

The designs remind me somewhat of Brian Froud's sketches for the movie Labyrinth.

maddmaestro- thank you :) i thought it best to mention the use of toy parts, afterall, there are a few elements that i didnt sculpt, mainly the hands and parts of the face.

alberic- thank you. you've got to love Brian Froud's labyrinth work, i think i've been subconsciously influenced by that since i first saw it maybe 15 years ago.
