We all love to see the finished pieces. But as concept artists we all should have a pile of ideas that did not make it to the table. This is where you post those. Give us your worst and your best.

When you post, give us some background on the sketch and some of your thought processes and what you changed and why.

Can't wait to see em.

Unfortunately my photoshop file was deleted when the student drive at school crashed, and I won't be able to finish my entry due to the massive workload at school I have ahead of me, however here are some progress jpegs that I still have. The first is the underdrawing that I was painting over and the other is just a head shot that I was still working on.

Hey AfroLaxMan

don't trash your idea, just roll with it. There were quite a few dog like creatures on Eatpoo's army, so it's no big deal.

Hey Mike, that's too bad about your 'rilla painting, it was sure looking awesome.

Well, hey, since unfinished gorilla monsters seem to be the order of the day, here's mine... It's probably going to be my final entry, but its still got a ways to go. I've still got detail to put in, that other wing, and then I just gotta clean it up...

Some of you who know me from school will probably roll your eyes at this painting because it harkens back to an epic, unfinished sculpture I struggled with for two years. Well, this is my way of getting some closure. The concept is a little different from the sculpture, but the flying gorilla theme remains the same. And yes, I have seen "The Wizard of Oz"...

-Sean

By the way, Mitch, those war dogs are incredible! You achieved an excellent balance between technique, expression, explosive motion, and concept.

Thanx Mac

You have got to finish that pic. That is beautiful. I love the wings, the mix of the feathers and machinery is brilliant.

thanks mcotie, appreciate the push. I really been racking my brain for awhile trying to find a beast that can encompass the guidelines for this comp, and the gorilla is screaming at me, as well as a few other people as well.

McNallyism, this is a very encouraging piece. the wings offer an amazing amount of stature for your gorilla. your mix of feathers with machinary is very well executed. awesome!

hey sean...

that arm seems very very odd ...i don't get a sense of wieght and correct anatomy in the body...its time to think like an animator ...roll the form in space and get the sense of overall wieght

-Joshua the only real gorilla!

http://www.mdss6.com/files/Catt_eat_poo_color_final.jpg
This is the slmost finshed one.. The EatPoo guy is at the bottom
I played round some more and came up with this
http://www.mdss6.com/files/Catt_eat_poo_color_Dramatic.jpg

I like this better because its got more depth to it

Hmmm...Odin, i think the first one is better. The second one is just overkilled by Photoshop-Tuning! If you want more depth work out the first one more...there you can see a lot more of the creature itself, his body and structure.

More patience and the success will be yours...

Oh..and please get rid of this difference cloud-filter :)

Now That I think about it your right. It is over kill I still have tendancy to do that. It is not as bad as it used to be...

I 'm rework the character this weekend,, and get rid of the clouds filter .......

Last night I felt the need to quickly produce
something for this contest. I started around
10pm with the sketch and finished around 12am
with the final painting. Here is the sketch
and my color rough. I really needed to be awake
at work today. Hopefully I will be able to
contribute more this evening.

McNallyism:--> The gorilla is great. Can't wait
to see the final.

For all those that would even be slightly interested...

I've posted all of the quick, scribbled ideas I put down trying to come up with a TDome piece, leading up to my submission. All of these had to be done during my day job (boring insurance company) and most look pretty quick because I had to hide them under my keyboard and wrist rest from my micro-managing bosses! Further complicating matters was a freelance job I got just as I started work on the piece. Good for $$$, but bad as far as time is concerned!

Anyway, I made a concious effort this time to try and record my thought process and how I work in order to evaluate it at a later time. It's been a goal of mine recently to re-evaluate my conceptual process and find a more efficient, more spontaneous way of going about it. So, for what it's worth...

This is really great bro. This is especially helpful for new artists like me who like to see the process. That took a lot of work to post. Thanks...great resource.

Smeagol,

Killer drawings. Your just like me. Always more satisfied with the drawing than the final painting. I've been illustrating for five years now and still can't figure out how to paint without covering up all the good stuff.

You've got an amazing drawing ability. Keep it up.

Just going through my folders and I had these scanned already so I figured what the hell.. I'll post 'em.

I think the idea above kind of evolved from this:

http://www.toddpowelson.com/sketch4.jpg

And this is an idea I wish I would have developed more. For some reason I thought that a feminine monster could be really scarry. I also thought that it might be cool to have the spinal columb as some sort of weapon but I couldn't figure out how to do it right. Maybe I'll revisit this later:
