Kind of fun how beginner I am as I don't even have a usual style. Everyones trying to do something different, while I'm looking for my usual style/subject... ;P

The colors you used for your mushrooms and (especially the door) don't fit in with the rest of your piece. Meaning, those colors are really bright and unnatural, but the rest of your piece is more realistic looking with more subdued hues. I think you need to add more of those colors around if you want to make the piece look consistent.

space-sprayer thank you!
chaosrox let me guess what next week surprise will be: a super-mega team-up of all the community activities (e.g. designing in one day some panels about a character using an object and fighting a creature in an environment). It could be challenging but I hope I'm wrong...

Extended deadline? Sweet. Didn't get to finish mine up over the weekend like I planned, but a couple extra days will put me on track. Just gotta finish the inking (almost done) and then give it a touch of computer color.

In the topic suggestion thread Chaos once told that she was saving the Underwater City topic for later on. The blue band in the upper right corner of the screen says "DEEP". I think they're preparing something linking all of the "Of The Week" activities together, in an underwater environment or something similar.

I think we had everybody get together and create parts of a theme -such as an underwater city: the park, city center, market etc..- that would be totally awesome.

Sweet, I just noticed that the deadline for this one was extended. I will have time to submit my concept. :)
...and I'm very curious about that "DEEP" thing that seems to be going on...and turning things blue. Hard to read, but with a fun surprise, I hope!

Arthur "Two Sheds", Arbu Thank you! I'm glad you guys like it, I didn't expect such appreciation. It's funny because I spent no more than two hours on it, while other images I tried to refine more where less successful...
I forgot: I use both Photoshop and Painter. This was done with Photoshop.

Love it Revenbo. There's a nice natural sketchiness to your style and a great use of high contrasting tonal values.
Ditto for Gaius. Love how raw the actual 'mouse house' area is. Do either of you guys use Painter at all or is it just Photoshop?
Thanks
I use painter 80% of the and photoshop the rest. :)

Gaius Great. Peaceful ad dreamy "Hobbyville" mood. How did you paint foliage and grass? By hand, custom brushes or some (well blended) photo insertion?
()nion I think foliage is a problem for everybody...
Arbu Nice. Reminds me of naif paintings.
Villa I like it (even if that tree looks a bit flat).
Arthur "Two Sheds" I like the illustration-like style.
Gaius

I did the foliage by making paper textures within painter, bit of a trick to it, gradually building it up in layers.
Thanks for your comments btw. :)

Eh, already posted in the Burning thread last night, but forgot to put it up here too. I'm a little slow sometimes. :P

And some comments on a few that really caught my eye.
Revenebo
Very nice. Love the tree texture and also the little details. Like the steam pipe/vent up at the top, I didn't even think to add windows let alone something like that. Awesome work.
Gaius
Just... awesome. The foliage in particular. And the rocks too. I'd also ask how you did it, but Revenebo already did and it looks like I'll just have to be satisfied with you holding it as a "trade secret" of sorts. :)
Villa
Simpler than the above, but it gives off a very definite atmosphere. Very cool use of colors.
Rayk
It's got a rough edge but like the above it exudes a very strong atmosphere. The rays of light are a particularly nice touch.
-------------
I am rather dissatisfied with my own grass and bark "textures". Aside from being out of practice, I also never really drew trees and outdoor environments (or environments at all) much. So it's one of those things where my personal limitations became very apparent early on. I think I've found my next pet project, I've already started brainstorming how to do textures... particularly nature related ones. :)
