Okay, we need fodder. Post your topic ideas here.

PLEASE READ
-=ON CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS=-
There is no hard and set rule here, but there are some things to keep in mind.
A character is an individual. This means that we are dealing with a specific person or creature, whatever it is. You can get as detailed as you want, or as vague as you want. But something individual, something unique, has to show through for your description to be a true character.
:right: Unrelated words strung together do not a character make. :left:
Character descriptions will vary greatly. They will at times be in depth. They will at times include a little bit of back story. And, they will at times be very, very brief. Below are three examples of character descriptions that stand a good chance of being accepted:
EXAMPLE 1: The Lizardman. This character is a member of a jungle tribe, and a member of the priesthood. This character holds a fair amount of authority and has a lot of presence in public, and as such must be dressed according to ceremonial ritual. The temple he is a member of is the Temple del Sol - Temple of the Sun. His design must reflect his affinity with the bringer of life, the giver of light. He should be armed, but not heavily.
EXAMPLE 2: Commodore Billipickfinster has just been ordered to take his Airship fleet and use their atomics to sterilize the Koochi-koochi invasion... by destroying his home city, where his family is trapped.
EXAMPLE 2: Fred is an angry teddybear
In presenting your ideas, anything that gets the sense of a *character* across, stands a good chance of being used. The more characterized, the more personality you pick up from the description, regardless of how many words you use, the better.
A good suggestion is to start with a name....

The Medieval Superhero - What if a superhero would be born into the medieval world. Sharing the ideals and knowledge of those around him/her but with fantastic powers. No wizzards or magicians. It is fine if he population believes he/she is a magic-user, but it should be clear to the persons seeing the image that it is not a wizzard, mage, sorcerer/ess or other "magic wielder" of typical look.
The Host - Many things are described as "the Host", angelic choires, fae armies. One of the defining points of the Host is that on an individual level, they are also called "the Host". Research material can be found on wikipedia and monstropedia ( http://www.monstropedia.org/index.php?title=Sluagh sluagh means "host"). This is an open ended topic. "the Host" can be many differen things: Angels, Demons, Faerie creatures. Your job is to depict ONE of them.

Angel, Warrior Angel, Sluagh, Host. Sithra Akhra

Let's see...
Dinosaur civilisation:
What if the dinosaurs were not extinct, and evolved into a civilized race instead of the small furry mammals?
Good elf/bad elf:
Always they talk about the goody-good High elves and the evil-bad Dark elves. Well, what do you think? (this should be a little bit open)
Master of Disaster:
Whatever he or she does, it ends in a disaster. Maybe voluntarily, or is it just really bad luck? (Could be funny)
The Ex-Terminator:
He comes from the future to get rid of all these pesty bugs from the present.
The Frankenstein Family:
Daddy, Mummy, the Kids, the Dog and the Cat. A family born in the lightning, living now in your neighbourhood.
Been there, done that:
Your chief, king, boss, mistress, or whatever orders you to do some task. Standing before him/her, you have done the task already, and somehow it should obvious for all others except for the taskgiver.
Well, just some ideas...

The Emo Kid and the Bubble Goth - All about good old fun contrast. Emo Kid an Bubble Goth are the best of friends, they both share an undying love for Tim Burton, videogames, random body-mods and heavy eyeliner. They've known each other since they were kids so you can depict them as their younger teen-selves or as their current young-adults selves. Emo Kid/young adult likes to think of himself as a poet, but since his writings are often overlooked, he tends to sulk. Bubble Goth is far more cheery but her penchant for "darkness" is there; you can choose to what extent you wish to display it in her wardrobe. She likes layered clothes and/or elaborate lacy/frilly outfits, but with a "twist". (for example, a classic: very feminine black corset with tutu but worn with combat boots.)
the point here is to show what they have in common (thru atmosphere, or attitude or wtever) while still maintaining each's individuality! you can invert boi and girl if you like but they must be recognizable right away, meaning: with one glance one shd be able to tell who's the emo and who's the bubble goth.
PS: i like the Frankenstein Family idea!

Militaristic Necromancer - Think of a modern day soldier crossed with a Necromancer. A robe with a camouflage pattern perhaps? Give a staff that doubles as a rifle maybe? He commands armies of skeletal troopers. Possibility of helmet, or just some bald guy with an evil look. I was imagining a scene where he is standing on a something, say a cliff, or a small hill, facing the enemy, and his army is already charging, or is getting ready to charge.

The liar - a character that is ready to do everything to have his outer appearence lead him to success. It has no particular value but has an overwhelming presence.
Helmut - character full of vice, physically weak, but has enough knowledge to defend himself in any situation and create technical prowesses.

Hunchback of Alpha Centauri- So we know the story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame. This time around though, you are required to make a character conceptual of a Hunchback of another Solar System.
This is fairly open-ended, it can be a human character, or an alien character, but it should represent the original Hunchback fairly well, and by that we mean that it should be Quasimodo (which means "almost like", possibly reffering to him being "almost like a human being" but definately not).
Do research, stay away from disney. We want a character concept, for this reason, we would like to see either some facial expressions or an orthographic view.
A startingpoint for research (if you are out of clues or don't have the book) is here -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quasimodo

I had sent this to daestwen a bit ago, but wanted to post here now that we have the new suggestions thread.
The Resurrectionist - historical/period topic
Before the passing of the Warburton or Anatomy Act of 1832, educators teaching anatomy and dissection were often forced to turn to the services of professional Resurrection Men or "body snatchers." So great was the fear that one's corpse could be secretly excavated and dissected that elaborate pains were taken to guard cemetery plots after burial or to inter the deceased with all manner of preventative measures. Rivalry between different schools and the necessity of a steady supply of fresh corpses usually meant that the Ressurectionist would be paid handsomely for his dirty work and usually with no questions asked...
There's a decent wiki article here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_snatcher) and a great segment on body snatching in the book Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach, available at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/Stiff-Curious-Lives-Human-Cadavers/dp/0393324826/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208462621&sr=8-1).
I think it would make for a great topic - plenty of atmosphere and mood! I'm sure the backgrounds/environments would be great, and lighting schemes with shuttered lanterns and London fog - I'm getting goosebumps!

Death as a teenager
- Death is not just about taking people to the next life. Death just wants to chill some time, maybe play some video games, get something to eat, or hang with friends.
Deus ex machinca (God of Machines)
-A race of beings gifted with incredible intelligence and created large machinces to help with various tasks. However, the story goes that during a routine upgrade, many of the machines went berserk, killing many. Their rampage continued, engulfing the god's homeworld. The gods developed a different kind of machine. They hoped that the current machines would help destroy the berserk machines. The gods rallied behinded the leader of the new machins and his famous war cry: "Transform and roll out."

Jack O'Lantern Once, a good many centuries ago, there was a mortal ne'er-do-well by the name of Jack, who managed to get the Devil to swear (on whatever it is the Devil swears to) to never take him into Hell. Unfortunately for our hero Jack, being denied entrance to Hell does not necessarily grant you access to Heaven.
Now Jack's spirit wanders through the darkness, his way lit only by a lantern made of a half-eaten turnip and a coal from Hell's fire.
(I love the story and I want to see people's takes on it. So there.)

The child who would grow to become a hero
Simply create a character(illustrated suitable for inside a book, suitable for either children or adult, your choice). Aged 7-9. Basicly he/she is born from a poor peasant family during Dark ages( 200-800AD). With very little money for expensive items. Dressed in rags, but yet already showing characteristics of his/her future self, who would later become a national hero, as a great warrior or even dragon killer.
Can be in any civilisation, european, americas, asian, etc.. as long as its a recognisable earth culture between the chosen dates. Also must show some kind of facial expression , (no manikins) Also since its illustration based, no plain white background. :)

Master of Zombies: ussually a necromancer or a vampire is the one controlling zombies, but this is a zombie not necessarly smarter, or stronger, but somehow, is the leader of a horde of zombies.
Non human vampire: either animal, alien, or inamate object.
Nature geek: an animal or plant that its a geek. Could also be star-trek/star wars fan boy, D&D player, or a simple nerd, but is not human.

recreation of a mythological hero. It can be an Mythological hero or god from either Greek or Roman mythology. Each main god or hero usually has some animal or symbol to go with them so incorporating that in the CHOW would be benifital. Example: Zeus, symbol is the lightning bolt, Neptune: trident and the horse(i think) Things like that i think would make an awesome CHOW and force people to really do some research.

Re-animator - "A dedicated student at a medical college and his girlfriend become involved in bizarre experiments centering around the re-animation of dead tissue when an odd new student arrives on campus"
Baba Yaga - a witch-like character who flies around on a giant mortar, kidnaps (and presumably eats) small children, and lives in a house on chicken feet (refs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baba_Yaga )
Modern God - a modern depiction of a god , since people stopped believing in the old gods, they started blending with the mortals.

The Blind Birdkeeper- He lives in a dingy apartment, situated in New York, and his only pride and joy are the collection of exotic birds he keeps in cages atop the building. He's blind, but he knows every single bird by name according to texture, size, and sound.
The Devil Really Wears Prada- A female Devil, or some kind of female demon from Hell that dresses in the latest Prada fashion line. She's cold and fierce and has a lesser demon, that can transform into a purse.

Veteran of the Psychic Wars
Inspired by the narrator of the Blue Oyster Cult song "Veteran of the Psychic Wars", but can be a general interpretation of the phrase. Here are the lyrics:
"You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars
Ive been living on the edge so long
Where the winds of limbo roar
And Im young enough to look at
And far too old to see
All the scars are on the inside
Im not sure if theres anything left of me
Dont let these shakes go on
Its time we had a break from it
Its time we had some leave
Weve been living in the flames
Weve been eating up our brains
Oh, please dont let theses shakes go on
You ask me why Im weary, why I cant speak to you
You blame me for my silence
Say its time I changed and grew
But the wars still going on dear
And theres no end that I know
And I cant say if were ever...
I cant say if were ever gonna to be free
Dont let these shakes go on
Its time we had a break from it
Its time we had some leave
Weve been living in the flames
Weve been eating out our brains
Oh, please dont let theses shakes go on
You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars
My energys spent at last
And my armor is destroyed
I have used up all my weapons and Im helpless and bereaved
Wounds are all Im made of
Did I hear you say that this is victory?
Dont let these shakes go on
Its time we had a break from it
Send me to the rear
Where the tides of madness swell
And been sliding into hell
Oh, please dont let shakes go on
Dont let these shakes go on
Dont let these shakes go on"
You can call me lame if you want ;P but I thought that kind of character would be really interesting.

This is like a 'The Suffering/Condemned' thing. Urgh, nasty - I can just imagine what they'd look like. Very freaky ChOW if it was ever selected. Kudos for the good idea, CrissCross. :P
The Rosicrucian Master -
First Approach: Design a philosophical mastermind; this ChOW would require you to pay attention to facial features as usual - but the rules are that the character must imply a suitable demeanour, in any form. This could be attained by just researching intelligent-looking people (Morgan Freeman, anyone? :P). Try to recreate the glint, intelligence and humour in their eyes - or maybe go for a more direct approach by taking inspiration from any Esoterica teachings that are available - or even portraits, such as Francis Bacon (a 15th/16th century English philosopher), Jacob Bhoeme, Socrates (said to have had his own Daemon) Rudolf Steiner (founder of spiritual science), Leonardo da Vinci etc. A concise explanation of the Esoteric world is in Jonathan Black's "The Secret History of the World" - very interesting and intriguing stuff sure to strike some visual chords.
Second Approach: could be to design a character that best shows the spiritual Brow Chakra (the Third Eye to the spirit world -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_eye), the vegetable body form commonly referred to in Esoterica, or a Rosicrucian/Freemason/Dalai Lama buddhist master attaining an altered state of conciousness. Quite a bit of research would be involved to get the characters right. Remember that they had many ways of attaining that altered state: near-death experiences, drugs, thought patterns, intense teachings.

A naked woman wearing some jewelry is not a design.
It depends of the jewelry, and it depends of how you do it. We are talking of an alien woman using ornaments of an alien culture.
I think the idea is fantastic, we'll just need some research before doing it.

She's basically just a red human. Her character and personality, from what I got from wikipedia, is undeveloped, uninteresting, and cliche. The contest will turn into a boring anatomy showcase. "Alien" in this case will be nothing more than a few dots on her face, or elf ears, or other nondescript bumps on her face, basically a StarTrek alien. It'll turn into a rendering contest.

I agree with your point to an extent, but the object of ChOW is a personal interpretation. If you're redesigning a character you can take liberties with it. A lot of the John Carter's were 'as the book' but there was no restriction to do so if that was your prerogative. That being said, Princess Dejah is one of countless options! :) I think Allan Quatermain would be fun! We need more pith helmets round here!

I'm really liking what I'm seeing on this this weeks topic. I was thinking that the Superfriends, being as lame as they are, would pose an interesting challenge.
The idea would be to reinvent the wonder twins, apache chief, samurai, black bolt, or marvin and his dog. Make them bad ass contemporary characters. We could even expand on this to include any of the other late 70's early 80's saturday morning cartoon super heroes (space ghost, thundarr the barbarian, bird man, etc.) It's only a matter of time before someone 'reimagines' these characters anyway. Everything old is new again:rolleyes:

Anthony Fremont, the reality warping 3-year old mutant as featured in the Twilight Zone Episode "It's a Good Life", based off the short story of the same name, also remade in "Twilight Zone: The Movie", parodied in that one "Simpson's Treehouse of Horror" episode.
"Anthony Fremont is a three-year-old child with near-godlike powers: transform other people or objects into anything he wishes, think new things into being, teleport himself and others where he wishes, read the minds of people and animals and even revive the dead, though he only tried this once. He may not be wholly human in appearance—hints in the story mention his "odd shadow" and "bright, wet, purple gaze;" the obstetrician at his birth was said to have "screamed and dropped him and tried to kill him;" and the other children are told that Anthony is a "nice goblin" but they must never go near him."

Not necessarily someone who's out to shoot one, but someone who has been searching for one for years. Intrepid explorers and scientists (or pseudo-scientists) on a quest for that elusive North American Ape...and who were probably hoaxed by some backwoods yokels wearing carved wooden faux feet on their boots...

The Vengeful Bride
We've seen her wreak havoc on those who have wronged her in Kill Bill, Lady Vengeance, and Lady Snowblood. Scorned by the misdeeds done to her, the Vengeful Bride undertakes extreme and often brutal means to exact her revenge.
Or alternatively, The Yūrei, or Japanese Ghost. Normally depicted as women with long hair in Kabuki and Japanese opera. In this topic, you should develop your own specific type of Japanese ghost and try to imply through your concept how and why the ghost haunts this world. Pay attention to the different types of Japanese ghosts. Do your research!
Archangel Makeover!
So we've seen the effigies of archangels looking the same throughout the ages, sporting the same ol Roman gear that they've been wearing for centuries. It's time to give these poor unfashionable angels an update into the fashion of modern times! IE. Archangel Michael is the patron of soldiers, he could be drawn with soldier's gear on. OR you can just have fun dressing them pretty and modern, instead of going the symbolic route.
Sorry if these have been suggested before, but thought they might be fun:D

Wiggers, an oni would be interesting. In fact, there are a great many directions we can go with the theme of japanese that spurred a few more ideas.
The Vampire
This might work for a Halloween CHOW? There are many types of vampires out there, from the aristocratic Count Dracula and Elizabeth Bathory to the Japanese Kitsune or the vampires whose heads leave their bodies at night to seek out victims. Create a vampire based on a pre-existing culture, OR make a new one based on modern or fantasy culture. Most vampires represent what is sexual and exotic to ourselves, or the fear of death and the unknown, depending on the myth. Try to make a concept which exhibits these themes.

Warrior in Drag - The warrior in drag is a character that moves with confidence in the world of the warrior, he just happend to put on his favourite drag-outfit this saturday, and there just happend to be some antagonistic b******s getting into his business whilst he was having fun...
This is a topic that could lend itself to both Sci-fi or Fantasy, though the idea stems from a warrior weilding a broadsword wearing a drag, this should not limit YOUR imaginative mind.
1. Needs to be a male character, wearing some form of Drag-queen-esque outfit and obviously being a warrior-type.
2. Though this could easily be a comical styled CHOW, it would be nice to see some serious ones aswell. Drag-queen Warrior doesnt automatically mean comic relief.
3. Concider the fact that it needs to be obviously a male character. Don't forget that clothes usually give the impression of gender, try to not make butch women-warriors in dresses but actually male warriors in drag.
4. If you wish, show how much butt a warrior in drag still can kick!

I've been thinking about "Faras, the mosquito killer" (the name is not important).
Two nights ago I had to be 20 minutes killing mosquitos to sleep, there were seven in my bedroom! And within years of training, I have some exquisite tecniques to end them!
So I thought about a great warrior who lives in a place full of them, and he's developed very special adds to kill'em'all (Metallica!).
The image came first when I saw myself (here, in my mind) like a kind of assassin, prepared to fight them...
I think it can be funny, and mosquitos (of course) ara not necesary small, they can be like in Jumanji ;)

skogsrå, swedish folklore creature, mistress of the woods. a trickster creature with the appearance of a lovely young woman, but viewed from behind she had a hollow back, like an old hollow log.
various parts of swedish lore has her riding on mooses, seducing men who wander into her woods, blessing hunters weapons by blowing on them, helping female sheperds with their animals. a creature who could do both harm and good to people who lived near or in the forest.

He Who Overcomes
The Sun beaming down, the light glistening off both the sweat of his brow and the blood of his enemies alike, he raises his banner high atop a mountain made from the corpses of his nemisi. Only scraps of armor and clothing remain, leaving his perfect body revealed to all. Every muscle is just as it should be; it gives him maximum power, yet never slows him down.
This character is probably pretty cliched, but what evs. He could be a savage barbarian, defeating horrors we can barely imagine, or an advanced soldier from the far future, fending off foes from beyond distant stars. He could even be some modern day ganger, beating down all comes.

Some of you have some great ideas, but two unrelated words won't get chosen for a CHOW. We want to go deeper than just stereotypes, and that's really what those are.
Think about the character ideas you are submitting. We want something that is multifaceted and intriguing, not a one dimensional cardboard cut out.

Paulus Hectorius Cassius, exiled member of Rome's illustrious and glorified Praetorian Guard, now residing in Germania as the leader of a small but ferocious band of warriors fighting against Roman occupation of their land. Sentenced to death for injuring the emperor's son in a rage after he raped Paulus's sister, Paulus escaped with the help of his childhood friend and constant companion, the Germanian giant Aalwijn. Paulus desires nothing more than to depose the corrupt, vile emperor and return Rome to its former glory.
The character should reflect the proud nature of an unwilling exile, his clothing and armor a mix of his old roman gear and germanic replacement. Can portray Aalwijn or not, Aalwijn means "Noble Friend". Remember that this is a very angry man, and yet his intentions are noble. He has been wronged, is in an environment that is alien to him, and spends most of his time fighting.

Modern fighter pilot Ala WWI's Red Baron, leader of a mercenary band of Fighter pilots. A dark and brooding figure, Richtofen has more than 300 bounties on his head totalling over 26 billion dollars. His men would follow him to the gates of hell and back.
The Counts are first and foremost a mercenary company, but modern legend has it that they fight for the purpose of ending warfare. Their presence does indeed tend to hasten the end of whatever conflict they decide to intervene in. They are that good; air superiority is usually established within hours, and the Count's preside over their new domain on massive air platforms from which they launch their aircraft. At the end of hostilities, the Crimson Counts mysteriously vanish; the governments of the world are at a loss when it comes to identifying their base of operations.

Perhaps since the recent CHOW has been book based:
The suave, wealthy and frequently psychotic Patrick Bateman of Bret Easton Ellis' American Psycho.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Bateman
I suppose the reqs/objectives would be:
1. Portray him (or her in a case of Patricia perhaps), as a suave, collected individual while still hinting to his psychotic side.
2. Portray without being graphic (ex: no bodies/victims), perhaps hinting with a minor detail in the picture.
3. Don't just draw Christian Bale from the movie adaptation.

in 2012 the earth as we know it came to an end, the ones who survived was small groups of people who fled to the mountains and found refuge in caves for years and years during the large catastrophic era, the flooding and chaos lasted for more than ten years... during this time there was hardly any sun.
One of the survivors is this kid, he or she was about 10 years old when the destruction came, now ten years later he/she leaves the caves and mountains behind and venture out in to the ruined hollow remains of the cityscapes where people once used to live, but everything is gone, well almost everything...

Quetzalcoatl, the feather serpent God of the Aztecs.
He was a common God for Aztecs, Mayans, Toltecs, and other tribes. His full name is Tze Acatopitzin Quetzalcoatl Kukulcan, and acording to the legend was blond, tall and hairy, adn was found in the beach covered with algi, thus the name feathered serpent, as he looked like one.
He caused a great deal of ideological revolution among the Toltecs and eventually was expeld. He made himself a ship and sailed to the east, trying to find the place he had come from. He promised some people like him was comming back soon, and among the aztecs, they saw this as the return on Quetzalcoatl and then the end of their world.
He is considered a historical person, with lots of legends around him. Probably scandinavian. His preaching and ideas where completly catholic and many of the temples and worship places dedicated to him have crosses in them.
the drawing may portray him in any of his stages, when he was found, during his time of preaching, his departure, or the Godly image the aztecs and mayans used to portray him (a snake covered in feathers)

Perhaps, playing on the idea of Foofea, we could do other characters from Dune. Specifically a member of the race of Fremen that inhabits the arid desert of Arrakis.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fremen
They wear a suit built to recycle all moisture of the body so that they will not dehydrate in the desert.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stillsuit
They are characteristic of their glowing blue eyes resulted from their proximity with the spice melange, and they fight with knives made of the tooth of a sandworm which they also ride with much skill.

There is quite a history to this race of people and they have a culture all their own. I would love to see everyone's different take on the nomadic Fremen.

how about a series of topics, something to help my Third Earth sketchbook. Maybe reflect into the other weekly design challenges. :) Consider this:
1000 years into the future, far beyond technology and what we know as the vision of the future to a world as a endless landscape of buildings. The society is harmonious of art, science, and religion. In their technology, a fluid biomechanica hybrid of both cybornetic sentinence and a living, breathing organism.
However, after a apocolyptic asteroid event drives out 95% of the world's population to escape to the stars, leaving behind others to fend for themselves in the aftermath.
Time passes, almost 3000 years since the disaster.
The ones who left for the stars, The Journeymen (now, some hyper-advanced hybrid of fluid machine and bioorganism. More or less human a result of living in space and alien breeding with various advance humaniod alien cultures) return to Earth, after hundreds of years of searching for their vestigial home. Upon landing, they find the distant descendants of the survivors, a culture of technologically inclined primatives in a vast, lush jungle planet (Earth undergone a climate hyper-restoration from the greenhouse gases. The planet's landmasses are 80% covered in thick woodlands, wild jungles, or dark forests of immense trees of at least 100 feet. The animals have balloned in size, almost 100 fold their present sizes. Imagine a spotted salamander a 100 feet long!)
The primatives discover one Journeyman sent on a mission of discovery and peace. The Journeyman (for the story's purpose, I'll name Anuk.) is taken into the cultures of various clans around whats left of the world: North America's wastelands; the myst-shrouded ruins of Asia; etc...
He takes sketches in his digital log to take back interpretative accounts from the planet before he is to return to the stars.
So, yes, think a bit future anachronism: hover sailcraft, propelled by a thrust vector but steered by a animal hide sail (IDW idea?). Tribal clansmen herding immense reptiles and mammals to power huge convoys in the dense of the jungles (CDW / CHOW)...
Well i hope this starts some ideas...:D

Arthropods is the name of the phyla containing segmented animals like insects, arachnids, trilobites, sea scorpions, horseshoe crabs, centipedes and milipedes. Arthropods are characterised by their segmented body and the hard exoskeleton covering their body.
Since Arthopods make up more then 80 % of all described living species and are by far the most successfull phyla, you get the thought "what if they had/would evolve into some kind of intelligent humanoid creatures?"
That is what I thought would make up a nice character, an intelligent humanoid insect or crustacian or centipede that you could have a conversation with over a cup of tea. A citizen of the mixed society made up by who knows what kind of creatures. That is what I thought would be intressting.

Melinda can be drawn in any stage of decomposition; from newly-zombied (bite mark visible, blood settling, otherwise little or no signs of death) to heavily decomposed (skeletal with barely enough tendons to keep her remaining limbs on).

Where are the PUDGY GIRLS at? Scanning through the galleries, it's either male (usually fully clothed, but in a variety of shapes) or female (which comes in thin and classic beauty or obese and ugly).
Personally, I'm an average, but if some of the fantasy males are allowed huge beer guts, why not the girls?
Big Beautiful Betty
A sideshow freak known for her immense size and yet gorgeous looks. Watching her gulp down cake can be an erotic experience.
Any era allowed as long as it's in a freakshow. Human or very human-like alien accepted. Showing other freaks/parts of the show is optional.
Princess Manticorre the Cruel
Spoilt, pretty, and with a sadistic streak wider than her hips, the Princess of the Manticorre family delights in having executions and violent interrogations take place in her bedroom (with similar action taken against any servant who doesn't get it clean enough afterwards). This behaviour is encouraged by her father, who believes it helps to continue the belief that the Manticorres are related to the fantastic beast on which their surname originates, and even some of the princess' own maids are certain there's some truth to this.
Occasionally the princess wishes to see the princes who try to court her burned, flayed or fed to hungry beasts, and though this rarely happens in order to keep peace within the empire the princess is good at getting what she wants.
Pudgy female, what she wears must reflect her wealth. Torture scene optional, but some sign of her obsession, such as mild gore or torture-themed toys, are required. Set on Earth, but elements of fantasy to suggest manticore heritage is fine. Research on classic, not DND, manticore is suggested. Non-white ethnicity also suggested.

A mysterious character who performs in Theatres in Victorian London who famous for life like performances of his/her puppet ,
The puppeteers audience are unaware that his/he puppets are real people.
The puppeteer is charming, sauve, well dressed theatrical type and superstitious has an obsession with religion - or occult.
Could be man or woman. Maybe their identity is concealed by a mask.
Puppets could be human or humans turned into puppets

Being pretty new to these here forums, ive lost some hours here in the CHOW. So i've got an idea:
Name: The Eclectic, Eccentric Singer
Inspiration: Tom Waits "Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards"
Description: A man who has been around for a long time, his age disguised by wrinkles and scars that the times have written on his face. He is a man of faith, but not necessarily of a religion, just a power of greater than his own. No man tells him what to do with his life, he is guided by winds and season. A drifter by day and a power of soul by night. He goes from town to town, playing in low-lit bars, drinking to drown out a regretful past. He sleeps when he cans, eats what people give him. His clothes are dated to a time before modern day technology i.e. a tattered suit with old snakeskin boots.
His only goal in his memorable life is to sing about his life story, full of tragedy and despair. He has a good heart but his life and appearance shows different.
In short, a vagabond.
Thought this would be pretty cool

1920's Silent Movie Star - she's been described as a kohl-eyed wanton, a seductive vamp luring men to their doom both on screen and behind the cameras. A devil in the eyes of mainstream America, vilified by the likes of Hedda (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedda_Hopper) and Louella (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louella_Parsons), yet a silent sensation who is too much of a box-office draw to be dropped from her contract by the studio bosses. She's starred for DeMille (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cecil_B._DeMille) and Griffith (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._W._Griffith) in biblical epics, she's endured agony working for "that dirty Hun" von Stroheim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von_stroheim) and the tyrannical Lang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Lang), and she's even rumored to have been on the Oneida the night Hearst allegedly shot western director Tom Ince. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_H._Ince) Too bad that thick Brooklyn accent and nasal voice will all but ruin her when talkies come along...
Think Gloria Swanson, Pola Negri, Theda Bara, Louise Brooks, some of whom are pictured below...could be done as a publicity shot of her latest movie (decked out in period costume), a glamour photo sent to an adoring fan or gracing the cover of a movie magazine, or a booking photo for that dalliance in San Francisco with Arbuckle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roscoe_Abuckle)...

My best buddy showed me this scary doll named Robert, or "Robert the Doll". Belonged to a strange artist since the guy was 4 years old. Throughout the artist's life, when he did nasty things he would blame Robert. The doll gave the artist's wife pretty bad vibes, and her husband even lashed out at her and still blamed Robert for his behaviour.
There are several videos on Robert, and what seems to be an aura about him, like he's haunted or something. He's a doll that apparently doesn't like to be touched, and is said to have tortured some people who came in contact with him. Well, if you check out these videos at the least, you'll get an idea about how spooky this doll is:

I've never seen a doll like him!! Maybe there could be a challenge about Robert! Escaping the museum; just being in someone's house; staring at the viewer with a mysterious aura about him... O_O Scares me plenty, so I thought it might be a cool October challenge!

Found this great gem on Yahoo news:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081007/ap_on_re_as/as_nepal_living_goddess
Cliffs notes:
A young Nepalese girl selected from the impoverished goldsmith class to be the next 'kumari' or living goddess. She is worshiped by Hindus and Budhists as the incarnation of the Hindu diety Taleju.
The child must be physically perfect and not afraid of the dark. As a final test, the living goddess must spend a night alone in a room among the heads of ritually slaughtered goats and buffaloes without showing fear.
The girl resides in a temple until she begins puberty, when she is sent back to her family and replaced by another living goddess.

I was surprised to see her. She had moved into the room so silently that the very air around her didn't seem to be touched. I knew she saw me, and I immediately thought, "great, she's one of those." However, I didn't get a bad vibe from her, and I was very good at picking up those.
She was small, I doubt she even breached five feet. She immediately brought to mind an image of a pixie. From what I could see of her face, her eyes were large and doe-like. Her face small, and her hair spiked unusually around her face. Her legs seemed to long for her tiny frame, although it didn't seem to make her any less graceful.
Then, she turned in my direction. The shadows around her seemed to melt off of her, as if she was controlling them. At first, I must say I was horrified. Nearly half her face was missing, scarred beyond recognition. Somehow, someone had been able to fit a fake eye into her skull in an approximate location of where it should have been. I don't know why, but the more I stared, the more natural it seemed. As if she was more than human, almost ethereal.
A large gun, sat at her back and a handgun sat on her thigh. They seemed so large for her tiny frame. On any other person, I might have found it even comical. But not on her, I had a feeling that she was very able to handle herself. As her eyes rested on the spot she knew me to be, I had a distinct feeling she knew everything about me. I briefly wondered who she used to be, before all this.

Socrates spoke about a Philosopher King. A man with great ruling abilities as well as a moral and philosophical credo that was always on the up and up. What would a philosopher dictator, or Philosopher Overlord be like? Cares to a point about his subjects, if they are in order, wants people to be happy, but will do anything. Desires power and control but not necessarily for vain gratification. Uses barbaric means. But will have moments of honor. Can be dark or light, (some the worst warlords loved to be surrounded by beauty, not carnage). Not the atypical evil son of a gun, makes the "defeating" of him more difficult because of the absent of a clear cut murdering dictator. Infact the philosopher may be better at ruling a society then the "Hero".

He sits alone, by the ocean. On the shore stands a weather worn piano, salt stained and worn by time, yet each note is in perfect tone. Orca whales sing with him as he plays his music. Sounds of longing echo through the morning air, strains of ponderous beauty. Of whom does he feel for, are they lost or yet to come?

The origin of this character is somewhat silly, but I've ALWAYS been interested in seeing what people do with it!
"Dirty Deets and his Thunder Jeep"
When I was a kid, listening to AC/DC on the radio but not knowing what it was, "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" was my favorite song. - But when they were saying "dirty deeds, and they're done dirt cheap", I thought they were describing a character - "dirty Deets, and his 'dunder' jeep" or "thunder" jeep.
I imagined this crazy old man named Deets, who carried cyanhide and concrete shoes and other methods of murder in the back of his jeep.
I would love people to re-listen to that song, and hear what I hear - and let the rest of the lyrics determine the character. Deets is the kind of man you have to hide your wife and daughters from. He's the kind of man who's willing to make a deal, and who has no conscious about who he kills or how/why he does it.

The Phantom of the Opera (Le Fantôme de l'Opéra) is a French novel by Gaston Leroux, which according to the writer is based on real events. Leroux's original 1910 novel is set in late 19th-century. The Phantom is an extremely intressting character who you can both hate and pity both at the same time. The story is unique and very deep. There are many versions of The Phantom, but they're yet the same.
I have to apologise if I gave too much information, but I felt that it was necessary to post the story if one should understand The Phantom and his character.
The novel is about an insane but genial man with a voice like an angel but with a horribly disfigured face. He haunts the Paris Opera L'Opéra Garnier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palais_Garnier) where he terrorise the acters while he court the beautifull Christine Daaé who got a wonderfull singing voice. He calls himself The Angel of Music and teaches her to sing when she's alone in her louge, she can only hear him and not see him.
The Phantom manages to drive Carlotta Giudicelli, the best of the sopranosingers, into insanity so that she leaves the opera and thereby gives Christine the chanse to take her role. But this becomes too much for Carlotta, who's afraid that someone else takes her place, and returns the following evening.
Christine meets her childhood friend Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny. Raoul overhears her succumbing to a tyrannical, yet supernaturally beautiful, disembodied voice in her dressing room (The Phantom). He becomes suspicious that another man is taking advantage of her innocent belief in an "Angel of Music" in order to seduce her. He starts spying on her in an attempt to find the mysterious seducer. The Phantom becomes envious of their relationship and reveales himself to her, wearing a mask, and take her down into his lair beneath the opera house.
Christine quickly finds that there is nothing angelic about him; she learns with disappointment that he is "neither an angel nor a genius", only that he and the ghost are one and the same - just a man. She comes to know him as malicious, volatile, dangerous and somewhat bitter, yet also brilliant and pitiful. The Phantom and Christine eventually begin a duet from Othello, and Christine rips off his mask, dying of curiosity. "If I live to be one hundred, I should always hear that superhuman cry of grief and rage which he uttered before that terrible sight reached my eyes", Christine later tells Raoul. The Phantom is furious at having his deformity exposed to someone who, he thinks, could love him. He threatens to keep her in his home forever, but later changes his mindand releases her, but only after promising to return by her own will and swearing never to give her love to anyone else.
After The Phantom reveals himself, she decides to tell Raoul, on the roof of the Opera Garnier, everything about her and the Phantom The two of them plan to run away from Paris. The Phantom evesdrop on them and comes up with an ingenious plan to later abduct her. The Phantom reveals himself on the Opera Masquerade Ball as the title character from Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death", where he announce that he written an opera with Christine in the main role.
Raoul begs Madame Giry, the opera ballet mistress, to tell him about the Phantom. She tells him of a fair that visited the city years ago, complete with acrobats and conjurers. The main attraction was a deformed man locked in a cage; a brilliant mind with the face of a living corpse. It was boasted that he was an architect, scholar, musician and composer who once built a maze of mirrors for the Shah of Persia. Madame Giry goes on to say that he escaped and was presumed dead, but she can never forget him "for in this darkness, I have seen him again".
When the opera owners reluctantly sets up The Phantoms opera after being threatened, they come up with a plan to capture him. During The Phantoms opera, they place armed police men in the opera house. But The Phantom abducts Christine and escapes down into his lair, Raoul asks madam Giry to show him the way and she warns him of the Punjab lasso with which The Phantom have killed many.
Down in the lair, the Phantom has forced Christine to put on a wedding dress. Christine asks if he is going to kill her, whereupon he assures her that he would not, and that his face is the reason that she will not love him. Christine declares that she is not afraid of his face, but his soul. Raoul arrives, pleading to the Phantom to release Christine. The Phantom admits him to the lair and snares him in the Punjab lasso. The Phantom offers Christine an ultimatum: either he will kill Raoul and let Christine go, or she will stay with him and Raoul can go free.
The Phantom insists that she must choose. Christine sadly tells the Phantom that he deceived her. Eventually, Christine shows The Phantom genuine sympathy and displays her love for Raoul by being kind to him despite his extreme ugliness, not running away when he takes off his mask, and even kisses him on the forehead. Stunned by the kiss, which is the first real human love he has ever felt, he sets Raoul free and releases Christine and gives them his blessings to marry. He asks them both to keep his existence a secret.
She and Raoul leave in the Phantom's boat. The Phantom sobs in the wedding veil Christine has left behind. As the mob approaches, he sits down in his throne and pulls his cape around him. Madame Giry's daughter Meg slips through the bars in the gate and searches for Christine. She notices the throne and cautiously walks over to it. When she pulls back the cape, she finds that the Phantom has vanished and all that remains is his mask.

Alright, so im watching "Hook" starring Dustin Hoffman and Robin Williams and im thinking those lost boys look so awesome in there homemade armor!!
My proposition is to make an original Lost Boy. A young teenager with ratty clothes and a crazy armor/outfit. He could be fighting a pirate ro swinging on to the pirate ship, this part can up to the imagination. But he must have DIY armor and weapons and be recognizable as a Lost Boy.
This is when the lost boys gear up, its starts at 6:38

This is the best part of the movie, when the Lost boys attack the pirates, the whole clip has great examples of what their crazy armor and weapons are like, especially the chicken gun, marble suit and paint sprayer

Sir Reginald of Wynsleydale, Last Knight of the Edam Order. He stands guard alone now, waiting for the orders he knows he'll never hear. He's the last knight now, the Tower stands silent, even the men have left, its only him and the prisoner.
His joints and bones ache even now has he writes his story. Just a poor mouse who inadvertently became embroiled with events to amazing to tell.
He writes about the Order now, its Founders, its members, its history.
He recalls his adventures with his brothers in arms, in fact the haze of the past seems more real than the present. He remembers the battles, the missions, the journeys and they all come to life within the pages of a book. But it's more than that isn't it? More than 50 years history are within its pages and the story it tells are his own, his story, his Life. A life no-one will know or really care about but a Life nonetheless.
He walks to the dungeon now, he knows his time is almost upon him now but he came into this world fighting. It seems only fitting that's how he should leave it. The prisoner is just as ancient as he is, possibly older but he is still in his prime and captivity has done nothing to his strength.
The prisoner has killed many knights in his time, a price he's paid with his eye and he's angry. Reginald is dying. That makes them even.
He can be done in three ways
i) In his youth with the Edam Order, either on the battlefield on at camp
ii) In his old age writing his memoirs
iii) Facing off against the prisoner (intentionally vague description)
His design must reflect both his ancient age and his ability in the arts of war. He is on the verge of death and he wants to go down in a blaze of glory thus he should be well equipped and proudly sporting the insignia of the Edam Order.
Did I do good?

-Everton Reed, Explorer of Reality 2.0.
There's probably a child like Everton Reed in almost half the elementary schools in America, you know the kind. The kind who always stare off into space while the teacher is talking, who always make up strange stories involving aliens and planets, who always scrapped their knees and elbows discovering some lost civilization behind the tulip shrubs.
Unfortunately for Everton, like most children, the spark from his eye was eventually lost. Gone were the days where he could look into the night sky and imagine all the aliens he could meet, Reality took its toll.
Besides from an awesome sense of imagination and curiosity, Everton was also exceptionally bright and by his mid 20's had graduated top of his class from M.I.T where he went on to specialize in Neuro-Interface Technology for New Ideas Incorporated, the largest Technologies developer and supplier in the Northern Hemisphere.
It was during his time with N.I.I that Everton went on to develope a revolutionary Neuro-Interface Suit System. Designed to allow N.I.I employees to interface directly to the companies computer system the suit would have placed Everton Reed in the history books. It was during the presentation to the C.E.Os that something went seriously wrong.
Once activated, the suit and the pre-set programme Everton was to execute went perfectly until an unknown power surge caused the suit to overload, almost electrifying Everton's brain. Once he woke up in the hospital, however something was different, a spark had returned to his eye. He discovered something. Something BIG!
Once he had recovered Everton was fired from N.I.I. No-one would believe Everton had discovered some kind of digital dimension. Everton didn't care either, he was a new man and research needed to be done. Stealing the suit system from N.I.I, Everton went on the run where he continues to use the suit system in order to explore this new reality, a true virtual reality which he dubbed Reality 2.0.
Notes:
Everton uses the Neuro-Interface Suit System to access Reality 2.0 though when in this digital dimension his appearance can be whatever he wants it to be. Open for interpretation though both must be included.

I would love to see a marionette...!
But not the typical Pinocchio-type. I would like it to be still just a lifeless pupett, not something thats made of anything that could be living.
But here comes the twist: The marionette may in no way be living or be able to live. Nothing made of flesh and bones, but really an artificial doll-like thing. So theres no active moving on it's own, just passively being moved by a puppet player. Its just a dead object. :dead:
BUT... it should have lots of character and personality being visible in the picture. Like those puppets that creep you out when you look at them, because they seem to look back. This could be either seen in the eyes/face, the pose that its lying in or the situation around it... You should somehow be able to see it's personality.
It can either be placed in a static pose or be moved by a marionette player or whatever they're called.
The atmosphere should be dark, eery and creepy. :S
RESUMÉE: Marionette: physically totally dead - mentally/personalitywise very alive
Can be a traditional marionette or a high tech one; boy, girl (or both or none of them at all)... Oh, and no cutting off or leaving out the strings (or laser/tractor beams or with watever it is attached).
Any other marionette theme would be fine as well... :D

The Politician
Think of Huey Long (or the ficitional Willie Stark), "Diamond" Joe Quimby from The Simpsons, Orson Welles as Charles Foster Kane, Martin Sheen as Jed Bartlet, or maybe even the belicose Boss Hogg.
What are his secrets?
What promises did he make and break to get where he is today?
Is he a Democrat or a Republican?
Is he President, governor, senator, mayor?
Is this current politics, or some time in the past?
Is this somewhere in the US, England...or some island country off the coast?
Is he loved or hated? Or both?
Is it necessarily a man, or is this a Margaret Thatcher, Jeanne Kirkpatrick, Hillary Clinton, or Condoleeza Rice?
Maybe I've been reading the Huffington Post too much lately? ;)

White with red ears are the faerie colours, not hell.
But folklore faeries, i.e. the tall, beautiful, but dangerous ones who kill cattle and steal babies, a bit more like a demonic-Tolkien-elf race.
Still, I like this idea. I'm a sucker for folklore.

Classic favourites, artist's choice on whether to go with the Greek-look or something more original (e.g. futuristic Hercules). Seeing these heroes facing cyborg or alien monsters would be awesome, in my opinion.
Basically a list of Greek heroes and some more significant monster-girls:
Hercules:
He fought MAN-EATING HORSES, a big lion, bull and boar (piggies can be dangerous), poisonous birds, the hydra, got the belt of an Amazon queen, HE CAUGHT CERBERUS!
He also swilled out a stable, caught a deer and stole some cattle.
Oh, and these because he killed his family in a crazy rage, so those who like insanity-based pics have a chance to dig into this one.
Right, he was also included in a lot of other things, e.g. he was one of Jason's Argonauts, but his trials are the more unique parts of his mythology.
Jason:
Lead the Argonauts! Came up against various beasties and was under close supervision (not always helpful) from the gods!
Most famous for that trip for the Golden Fleece, which included betrayal, love, betrayal of love, a golden sheep's skin and its guardian reptile.
Perseus:
Most famous for getting Pegasus and killing Medusa. Saved his girl from the KRAKEN.
Oedipus:
Guy who married his mum after killing his dad (by mistake, he didn't know they were his parents, though that's why you shouldn't just kill strangers I guess). Went pretty emo after that, but before this grief (though after killing his dad en route) he defeated the Sphinx of Thebes.
Theseus:
...And the minotaur. The rest of his adventures were rather more political in nature I think (including the mythological races and gods of the time).
Odysseus:
Holy crap he did a lot! Relevant is that he faced the sirens (who resemble beautiful women with the lower torso of fish or birds who lure sailors into dangerous waters with their singing where upon the men die).
And he faced Scylla (mentioned below, but the Odyssey version seems to be bigger and have much longer necks, plus a real taste for human flesh).
Also faced the cyclops (awesome story) and all this following the Trojan War!
...Monster time!
Medusa:
Snake-haired ugly from a once-proud beauty who got in trouble with the gods, with the gaze to turn creatures to stone; Perseus fought this one.
Arachne:
Another vain girl who got on the nerves of the gods (and beat a goddess at weaving), also paid for it with her form. Mythology implies a full-spider transformation but I know we like Drider-beasties.
Sphinx of Thebes:
Body of a lion, head of a woman. And often chest of a woman too. Wings common in the Greek version.
Vicious girl with a love for lateral-thinking puzzles, kills those who gets her riddle wrong.
Defeated by Oedipus (but we all know the guy had parent-issues).
Scylla:
Victim of a woman's envy, this young girl was transformed into a beast not just dog from the waist down but SEVERAL (six) dogs foreparts making up her lower torso!

there are only a scattered few art majors on campus, here are the archtypes to be found:
- the one dimensional boring as fuck farmer's daughters who paints cows, they are chubby and have a curly mullet of hair. she is the antithesis of everything boner inducing.
- the library nerd girl turned sculptor who has no hygene practices. she's way too fucking into Harry Potter and doesnt have the shy allure of her standard library girl counterpart. her hair is frayed and looks like a brush and family of birds are trapped somewhere in it's wirey depth.
- the i'd be more goth but this is all i could find at Hot Topic girl. sadly she is probably the best option for wanking to, but you can never have sex with her because she is only surface and doesnt have the ability to engage in conversations about art outside of the realm of Pixar films. her knowledge of art is based on whatever special features are on bonus discs of mediocre animated mass culture films. she is a virgin but masturbates and tim burton. it's always tim fucking burton.
- the quirky hard-drinking graphic design girl. she dressed sharp as hell and has rocking-awesome glasses. the catch is she's a full-on lesbian, which would be awesome if i had a muff to rough with her. this type of girl will pour herself all over you and is ten times more intelligent than i can even fake, so you can't pull the slightest bullshit without her being eight steps ahead of you.
- i'm married, nineteen, and i only talk about my husband and tell high school stories painter. fuck is she annoying. there is nothing remotely interesting about her. she's already accomplished her goal of finding some poor guy and has settled down. she's only in college because her daddy is rich and she doesn't want to get a job. there's at least two or three of her in all my classes and they only relate with each other. she hates my work because she only sees it as sexist and putting females in an objectified and inaccurate portrayal. the wide-hipped bitch needs to get pregnant and fucking drop out of my art classes, as all she offers in critiques is generic conceptless trite cliches and excuses for why her assignments arent finished.
- the horny-crass, thin well-fashioned girl who reads but doesnt feel the need to brag about her intelligence, and probably has dyed hair. this girl does not exist at my school.
- the gay art male. teachers love this kid because he tends to be ultra-social and outgoing, girls love him because he isn't trying to get in their pants, guys like him because they're also gay and want to hook up with him.
- the hermit art boy. is rude as hell and isnt shy about alienating people who try to get away with pulling shit that isn't up to par. he's hilarious if youre on the same 'side' as him, but can be a jackass and tends to act like a know it all. his audacious bullshitting is backed up by solid formal knowledge and craft which intimidates lesser people from raising their voice against him. he doesn't date, does not pursue a relationship with anyone, and is a loner, HIS NAME IS GRIEF, OVERLORD AND GOLDEN BOY OF THE SMALLTOWN UNIVERSITY ART DEPARTMENT. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE OF HIM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgpylExfL0c). teachers hate him because he never graduates and isn't afraid to call the faculty on their vast piles of shit they feed.

haha, I got another little idea, it'd be the last one from me, ive already spammed this thread enough
Redesign a CA Legend i.e. Marko, El Coro, Android, Jason Manley or any others
What would these guys look like if they chose a different path in life besides creating ridiculous artworks? Their physical descriptions must look like them, but body type, hair, clothes are up to to you.
examples:
Marko started drawing in his early childhood, self taught by drawing heroes from american comic books. His interest in drawing dropped as his interest in comics increases. He soon amassed a huge collections of comics, eventually opening a comic shop in Germany, where he regularly attends Comic Cons where he dresses up as Spiderman or other marvel heroes.
Android Jones grew up in the mountains of Boulder Colorado, and became a man of the environment. He became an avid skier and eventually turned pro. He was on his way to the Winter Olympics when he broke his pelvis on a practice run, shattering his dreams forever. He his now the shell of his former life, now he just stares at his reflection in his mirror. ;)
You get the idea, though the outcomes of their lives doesn't have to be a negative one. Marko could own the biggest shop in the world or Adroid went to the Olympics, becoming the Michael Phelps of skiing.

A half-black, half-Korean hacker, swordsman, former Mafia-employed pizza delivery man, CIC intelligence agent and (as suggested by the name) the hero and protagonist of Snow Crash. Hiro has extensive access to the Metaverse(a VR Internet world), as he was one of its original developers; for instance, he is the undisputed champion of in-Metaverse sword fighting, having written himself the code which makes such sword-fighting possible. (He also shows enough combat skill in Reality to avoid getting killed in any of the fights he gets in; this is ascribed to "inhuman reflexes.") However, he is completely broke in Reality, having sold his stock in Black Sun before the Metaverse got really popular.

Dmitri "Raven" Ravinoff
An Aleut native who works as a mercenary. His preferred weapons are harpoons, spears, and glass knives — undetectable by metal-searching security systems, reputed to be molecule-thin at the edges and able to penetrate the bulletproof windbreakers which most characters in Snow Crash rely on for protection. He travels on a motorcycle whose sidecar has been replaced with a hydrogen bomb that will automatically detonate if his brain ceases to emit electrical impulses. Raven has the phrase "POOR IMPULSE CONTROL" tattooed on his forehead, a sign of being arrested for some violent crime at least once in his life. His stated goal in life is to "nuke America" in retaliation for the historical treatment by America of native Aleutians, such as using their lands for nuclear testing (e.g., at Amchitka). His combination of fighting ability, conscienceless killing, and personal nuclear umbrella prompt Stephenson to describe Raven as "the baddest motherfucker in the world".

Jungian psychological archetypes.
The Self: the person as they actually are.
The Shadow: the deeper part of the psyche involving animal urges, sex especially.
The Anima: the feminine side of every male, usually portrayed as a small girl.
The Animus: the masculine side of every female, usually portrayed as a wise old man.
The Persona: the self as projected to the outside world.
The Shadow is sometimes also described as pure emotion, the antithesis of the persona which is pure logic.

Bluebeard. The Fairy Tale answer to Ed Gein.
A serial rapist, murderer and misogynist with a penchant for young women, all of whom having fell victim to their own curiosity in discovering the blackheart's trophy room, where Bluebeard hangs the mutilated bodies of his former wives and lovers where he can continue his ghastly torture even in their death.
Despite the source of his name, a horrendously blue beard, he is non-the-less charming and debonair in public but be wary for this is only a facade that masks a truly malicious creature with a terrible intelligence that has allowed him to allude arrest dozens of times.
So when the women tell you to lock up your daughters, you best listen or Bluebeard will sweep them of their feet and hang them in a Hell of his own creation

Not sure if it's been mentioned. In the categorie 'Freaks':
- a dwarf and a giant in the same piece (a li'l person and one who's abnormally tall, like André the Giant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_the_giant) was)
- Strong man/woman and the Living Skeleton (obese overeaters vs anorexiapatients)
- Beauty and the Beast: bearded ladies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearded_lady) and obvious 'uglyness' (like The Frogheaded Boy or The Birdgirl, people with unattractive features that got them these names, the Birdgirl just had a very big nose).
- Hermafrodites: all about androgyne looks (like Victor/Victoria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor,_Victoria).)
- Siamese twins (like Chang and Eng (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eng_and_Chang)).
- Wild Man and Feral Child: lost from civilization, but recently refound, they are raised by animals/ act very much unsophisticated. (Mowgli)
I've been reading this book called: Freaks, Myths & Images of the Secret Self (http://www.amazon.com/Freaks-Myths-Images-Secret-Self/dp/0385470134)by Leslie Fiedler. Written in 1978, it's pretty much about the exploitation of people who society would consider as 'abnormal' and how and why they'd be exhibited in the past centuries. It's interesting how these subjects still fascinate and in a way, frighten people still as they make one question the own identity.
For the artwork we could go the 'mythical' path rather than the sad reality, but both are possible.
Oh, also neat: Herod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herod_the_Great). Though perhaps this might be more interesting for the EOW, as he had many awesome architectural achievements that are really inspiring.

Yes - simply put because I chose to have a Queen, but not a King. Aside from that, I think the feminine captures the original ideals of CHOW far better than the masculine. It was a choice that was put into place when I started CHOW way back in the day, and has since become a bit of a tradition.

I’ve checked the suggestions and I don’t think this has been mentions so here goes:
Paradise Lost
The Parliament of Hell in the beginning of Book II:
Satan
“High on a throne of royal state, which far
Outshone the wealth of Ormuz and Ind,
Or where the gorgeous East with richest hand
Showers on her kings barbaric pearl and gold,
Satan exalted sat, by merit raised
To that bad eminence; and from despair
Thus high uplifted beyond hope, aspires
Beyond thus high, insatiate to pursue
Vain war with heaven, and by success untaught
His proud imaginations thus displayed”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satan
Moloch
“He ceased: and next to him Moloch, sceptered king,
Stood up, the strongest and fiercest spirit
That fought in heaven: now fiercer by despair:
His trust was with the eternal to be deemed
Equal in strength, and rather than be less
Cared not to be at all: with that care lost
Went all his fear of God, or hell, or worse”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moloch
Belial
“Belial, in act more graceful and humane;
A fairer person lost not heaven: he seemed
For dignity composed and high exploit;
But all was false and hollow; though his tongue
Dropped manna, and could make the worse appear
The better reason, to perplex and dash
Maturest counsels: for his thoughts were low;
To vice industrious, but to nobler deeds
Timorous and slothful: yet he pleased the ear,
And with persuasive accent thus began”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belial
Mammon
Poor guy doesn’t get a stanza and I’m not about to type out his whole speech, so a little more work here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammon
Beelzebub
“Which when Beelzebub perceived, than whom,
Satan except, none higher sat, with grave
Aspect he rose, and in his rising seemed
A pillar of state; deep on his front engraven
Deliberation sat and public care;
And princely counsel in his face yet shone,
Majestic though in ruin: sage he stood
With Atlantean shoulders fit to bear
The weight of mightiest monarchies; his look
Drew audience and attention still as night
Or summer’s noontide air, while thus he spoke.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beelzebub
They could be modernized and appear as modern day politicians, or be more traditional and demonic/angelic.

A character from not yet published book by Julia & Dmitry Deulin "Too Many Dragons":
Adjit
Adjit is notorious as the most skilled executioner of Nethelheim. Actually dungeon elves (mind that Saargian dungeon elves are not drow at all) are not known for sympathy and kindness, he is considered a crank even among them. Adjit is not just a crazed torturer, he's an artist of pain and suffering, and he is definitely fond of his job. Unfortunately for him, one of his victims appeared to be a disguised dragon. Growing tired of Adjits efforts, the dragon slaughtered the guard but for some reason spared Adjit's life, tearing off torturer's arms instead. He thought he's made Adjit harmless (what a play on words!). He was wrong.
Adjit survived. Alone. Driven twice as mad as he was before. Armless. Angry. Dangerous. Bloodthirsty. Really badass. And with some scores to settle.

Brutal Sniper - As a sniper, he grew up with pain in his eyes. His fingers dead with use forced to shoot while young, his aim perfect and his timing presise. Coming from a background of marksmen he was brought up as one and could only be one. He lives to kill and dies for that one single shot. (tried too keep it pretty brutal, also tried to keep it away from a sertain civilisation. So this sniper could be any type, just as long as he's brutal, deadly and ntelligent. Also even though I said he, it could be a female. Use the idea and change some words if you like...)

Jölföðr (Yule-father) and Jölnir (Yule) are names of Odin. Some think Odin was the original "Alf" or gift-giving "Elf" ( Julesvenn in Denmark, Jultomten in Sweden, and Julenissen in Norway). Before Santa Claus was popularised he was seen as tall and lean, wearing a dark cloak, as riding a white horse, The elder "Yule Elf" was a bit stern also, and could be quite a terrifying figure, especially to rude or ill-willed folk.
Thought it might be a good seasonal pick.

The princess Vasilisa Prekrasnaya (Vasilisa the Beautiful) or Vasilisa the Wise is a stock character in Russian fairy tales, including The Frog Tsarevna and Vasilissa the Beautiful. The character often rises in status from a peasant girl to the wife of a prince or is a princess who marries the hero after helping him to accomplish difficult tasks. Unlike other fairy tale heroines who wait to be rescued, Vasilisa often accomplishes a series of tasks that help her defeat the villain of the story.

Koschei is an evil person of ugly senile appearance, menacing principally young women. Koschei is also known as Koschei the Immortal or Koschei the Deathless. The spelling in Slavic languages suggests that his name may be derived from "kost" (kość=bone); thus suggesting a skeleton-like appearance.
Koschei cannot be killed by conventional means targeting his body. His soul is hidden separate from his body inside a needle, which is in an egg, which is in a duck, which is in a hare, which is in an iron chest, which is buried under a green oak tree, which is on the island of Buyan, in the ocean. As long as his soul is safe, he cannot die. If the chest is dug up and opened, the hare will bolt away. If it is killed, the duck will emerge and try to fly off. Anyone possessing the egg has Koschei in their power. He begins to weaken, becomes sick and immediately loses the use of his magic. If the egg is tossed about, he likewise is flung around against his will. If the egg is broken (in some tales this must be done by specifically breaking it against Koschei's forehead), Koschei will die.

Geeky topic yes I know, but hey there's an 11th one coming up soon with Tennant retiring. That and the Doctor provides a hell lot of variation for designs, considering his variety of appearances over the years. You can make him a byronic noble, or make him grim and gritty, or you can go for the child friendly one with a rainbow scarf and vegetable.

A Lost World. Imagine the world after a Great War, the greatest war of all time in our planet earth.
Some time after the destruction our once beautifull home is now a pile of trash run by a grey sky and barely anything is left of use around it.
There is a man in there that finds along his path "souveniers" of the past, he is a primitive, scared, poor man.
He gave a first look at those memories, he had only heard about the past from his grandfather, all the wonderfull things he was told seemed like lies to this poor defenceless man. Surprise and fear ran throug his veins for the first moments then a tremendous curiosity to know more about what he was just observing. He finds more and more clues that we can stick together to define the unknown place that this man is in.
Its simple but there is alot to think of in this, the historical junk this man is looking at can be anything, a poster, advertising, maybe he is in a train station, mall, etc. the possibilities are endless it just has to be adapted to the current situation of his world.
Ill be sure to make up some more ideas.

I'm pretty sure there are lots of requests for pirate stuff, but that's because pirates are f#%king dope. I'm pretty sure some of these are cliche, but classic, so please give'm all some consideration.
Ninja Pirates: exploiting the sanctioned ports of Asia they are a mixed pack of strays with no country to call their own, only the pacific ocean.
Star Pirates: exploiting the sanctioned ports of Orions Belt they are a mixed pack of strays with no planet to call their own, only the vast nothing.
Cloud Pirates: exploiting sanctioned ports across the globe they are a mixed pack of strays with no country to call their own, only the sky.
Flood Pirates: exploiting the flooded state of Florida, they are a mixed pack of strays with no home to call their own, only the salty marsh.
Ice Pirates: exploiting the oil rich ports surrounding the north pole they are a mixed pack of strays with no country to call their own, only the ice shelves.
I could do this forever.

People may have suggested things similar to these already but...
The Dreamthief: walks in dreams, taking those of value for sale in the midnight market.
Herr Oberfuherer Ludvig Geheim: head of Nazi occult research in 1938. He is aided in his research by his unamed 'igor-like' construct assistant. Together they are researching the secrets of diabolism.
Apollyon: the Angel who guards the gateway to (and more importantly from) hell. He is tired by his long and lonely vigil. He is troubled too, as an angel he is deeply compassionate but God has forbidden him to give succor to the damned souls that plead with him through the gate.

The Feline Merchant:
A cat that rides a top a magical chifferobe that produces whatever item you want. It is pulled by an ostrich sized kakapo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakapo He sells his wares to anyone who will buy them ( most people cannot afford it though). If you have no money he will allow to take an item but you must do something for him in return in a certain amount of time. He magically appears when the time is up. If you don't finish the favor he will turn you into an item in the chifferobe.
The sexy trickster :
A good looking man who lures pretty females to his lair. He makes them dolls in his doll collection and uses them in traveling plays.
The jilted superhero:
Can be male or female. This hero's powers suck like the power over gravy or the power to read the minds of mice. This hero tried out for a team of hero's but was turned down.

I've just read Terry Pratchet til it's come out of my ears...hope it's not too specific but it's interesting.
How about: Lord Samuel Vimes and Lady Sybil Vimes
Commander Samuel Vimes of the watch - a simple copper of the street who married a lady now he has to begrudgingly dress up in all the regalia of a lord and parade around like a ninny when all he wants is to walk his beat...
Lady Sybil - a noble woman from an old family of Ankh-Morpork who breads and looks after orphaned dragons, space isn't a problem though when the nervous blow themselves up at feeding time...

A cheezy fantasy pinup lady, set in a cheezy enviroment.
I'm talking unicorns, Dolphins swiming in space, wolves, Full moons, white tigers drinking from a lake that has a reflection, but wait it's not a reflection it's the universe. wow - deep meaning hippie stuff. have another toke on the pipe.
The trick would be to make it cheezy but to still be inticing and interesting.

The Nain Rouge, French for "red dwarf" or "red gnome" is a mythical creature that originated in Normandy, France, as a type of lutin. In the United States, it haunts Detroit, Michigan, United States and feared by its residents as "the harbinger of doom." The Nain Rouge appears as a small child-like creature with red or black fur boots. It is also said to have "blazing red eyes and rotten teeth." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nain_Rouge

Here's a character:
Diden the emo pirate. His appearance does not look out of place, only his character. He is afraid of the ocean/sea and doesn't fit in with the rest of the pirates because his motifs and values are vastly different from theirs. He enjoys solitude and loves the night, but he does not flee the company of other pirates, who seem to ignore his strangeness (note: they don't ignore him though). A story could also be added with the illustration.
This character is my own creation, so you won't be able to google him ;)

the world-eater... a cosmic being, giant, like the Marvel Comics Galactus
redesign a Spider-man villain?
ringwraith from the Lord of the Rings?
explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) technician?
giantess, beautiful and interacting with a tiny, maybe even imperceptible (to her) world... I think would involve maybe a close-up (second drawing) of the little people)...?
redesign the giant from the brave little tailor?
inhabitant of the Matrix - (yes, the movie- like, a "ghost", a "werewolf", a "zombie"...)
Cheers!

The embodiment of an emotion.
The artist could chose the emotion or everyone could draw the same emotion. (IE: Love, Fear, Embarrassment, Overwhelmed, Hopeful.)
What the emotion would look like if it took a physical form. Add a description of why they are drawn the way they are drawn.

The Thumbeline Tribe Member
Male or Female.
Thumbelina was a fairy tale character, no bigger then your thumb I guess.
Anyways set in modern time or maybe 200 years back.
They have access to human technology but dont really have any of their own.
I guess they are to small to be able to forge metal so they maybe use needles as weapons and have to wear spider silk or something.

Since there's been a round for older people (baba yaga) and males (queen's consort) recently, maybe have a round to illustrate one of the children from well-known fairy tales? I was thinking little red riding hood or maybe goldilocks with bonus points if you include the wolf/the three bears and make the creatures into distinctive characters without including 'gender-specific' clothing to indicate which is the daddy/mummy/baby.

Man, I'll say this now but it makes me shy: Showing your own interpretation of a video game villain. Sort of the "I woulda made him this way" type of thing, but possibly picked randomly by ChoW mods. I'm biased myself because I always think of King Koopa from Super Mario. Or even Dr. Robotnik from Sonic the Hedgehog. Tee hee! *runs*

Give her a different look. Horrible, cute, sinister, strange, alien, sexy, whatever...
Just my two cents.
