Topic: War Idol
Background: Suggested by D-Holme:
War Idol – as civilisations go to war they take with them to the battlefields great idols of their nation/religion. These mobile icons inspire their troops to greater deeds of valour and inspire fear into their enemies.
Brief:
1. Design and draw a War Idol!
2. That's it... now draw!
Deadline: Saturday April 19

nice idea. so i imagine it would be nice to give a little backstory on why this particular idol represents the civilization we're designing it for?

This sounds intriguing! Are we supposed to base the idol on an actual civilization/religion from history or are we free to make it entirely fictional? Actually, I love the iconography of the ancient Central American cultures so I might go for something Olmec/Maya inspired.

GusTheRobot: Description with the image about the culture would be cool yeah, but the image itself should do most of the talking :)
Oishiiniku: You can come up with your own or with use an existing one, that's up to you.

Waurmaian idol
concept- the god of war, Waurmai, provides in his presence healing, energy, power, an courage to his followers, but to his enemies, causes fear, sickness, weakness, and pain. but one of the restraints of this god is that he cannot dwell in the realm of mortals without a physical body. the monks of the land have found a way to bind his essence to blessed marble, allowing him to aid his people in battle. with polished gold joints he is able to move, and with the symbol of the white ravens eye, he is able to see his servants and lead them to victory.

Evil_sloth: holy frickin crap, that's got a really nice feel to it.
Darthnadar: features in your design description are wel thought out, but sketch needs some work. try breaking it down into some simpler geometry forms to give it structure and try find some reference of specific details to add to it. details product/trans ad industrial design in general are what makes it believable and functional.
I just handed in my final Industrial design thesis yesterday. gonna find out out the results today wish me luck.
Since I'm basically finished my degree now I have some time to start drawing particpating in these work shops again. as soon as I'm done my e-book for tomorrow class and reviewing for other exam. I'll start working on this.

Still a couple of days to go for the deadline. Again, this doesn't seem to be a very busy round :(
Darthnader: Yours will need some more work before it makes it to the poll, it is too unfinished as it is. The image doesn't explain what it is and does yet. The description should not have to clarify the main point of the design on its own.
Evil Sloth: Looking nice so far but the design itself could use some more attention maybe, the wheels and way of moving are still a bit unclear. Also, you added a whole background, but I miss the screaming hordes that push/pull or adore the War Idol. Without them, the design can still be anything from a simle statue to deamon propelled war machine.
lkjhgfdsa: It doesn't look as if it's standing firmly on the ground and the amount of figures around it doesn't really show a war is going on down there, but apart from that it looks cool so far :)

This “Shiva” AMAP (Autonomous Mobile Assault Platform) has been co-opted as a war idol by the remnants of the population of Detroit to aid them in their ongoing struggle against Chicago. The serial numbers of this weapon implicate it in the infamous Haight-Ashbury massacre of 2045 where widespread electronic counter-measures caused it to run amok. Although apparently dead, it is merely in sleep mode, awaiting further orders from US High Command.
