What's this?! another duel by Rockhart!!!! (cue groans) hey my thinking is the more duels I enter the better chance I might actually win one .... :P but who knows? ok now let's get down to business...
topic 4:
player 1 (Rockhart):produces a dagger
A- your blades glint off oneanother as a fast and horrible duel of speed blurs the battlefield
B- you flip over your oponent jamming a dagger through their ruined defence.
player 2 (Liquid Penguin) :you produce a pet
A - your pet shreds your oponent limb from limb as you swig from your flask of mead.
B - your pet desolves you oponent into a puddle with a dagger sticking up.
Start: Wednesday 8:30 GMT
Deadline: Friday 8:30 GMT

Mmm, and remember, winning rocks, but this is mostly about improving your skills! (crowd glares menacingly) I mean...eh heh...uh, glory to the victor!

Nice, already finished, eh Rockhart? Well, you've still got about eh...45 hours left, maybe you could add a background in? Get rid of some of that negative space? And nice job properly representing the armor, it's comin' along well! Oh, and nice choice on the katar, I hardly ever see anyone choose exotic weapons like those!

very nice WIP! as you can see I'm not on friendly terms with dogs..... yeah I suppose i could add a background since i have time, but they're not really my strongpoint... I guess I'll try. oh and about the katar... I originally had your guy punching at me and I was thinking to myself "oops! Now how am I going to incorperate a blade without having to redo his whole arm...." and then BAM! it just hit me :P...

Well, my noob gf wants me to go play smash, soz I gotta take a break. Here's the wip so far! I'm tellin' ya Rock, it's a good pic but ya gotta put an environment in there! Gotta do the things ya don't like to get better at them. I'm in the same fix...dunno what to do with my bg either. Hrm...http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii148/LiquidPenguin/LiquidPenguinVSRH.jpg

I must've tried like, 8 different ways of coloring this pic...I have no idea why, but it will not be colored. I tried reds, purples, blues, oranges, mixes...it's cursed! I really need crits on this, any ideas would be grand. Anyways, I'm outta time, so this is my final. Good luck!http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii148/LiquidPenguin/LiquidPenguinVSRHCursed.jpg

My best recommendation for coloring a grey scale pic is really taking advantage of photoshop's multiply, overlay, and color adjust capabilities. I rarely if ever start out with the colors I truly want, but by experimenting with my layers I can get some really surprising results. It'll also add a lot of depth and color variety. :D I know it's not a specific crit, but I hope it helps at least a little.

Cool cool, thanks for the tip! I've only recently started using the grayscale-color method, but it's been really fun. Although, I feel I'm relying too heavily on the color balance tool, along with curves, so I've been trying to trim down on those so as not to develop a cruch. That being said, I tried a ton of different color balances with multiple base overlays, and I just cannot come up with anything appealing for that pic. It's quite frustrating.

Sounds good! Practice some environments of the week to get ready and I'm sure you'll win the next one!
