P.O.W.! Challenge 6
Deadline: March 11, 2008, 11:59 pm anywhere in the world.

Topic: "Ready?"

Gee...can we get any more open-ended than this? The statement "Ready?" must appear in your comic somewhere. Interpret any way you wish. Any media. B&W or Color.

You can present your solution as a minimum of TWO to a maximum of SIX pages which adhere to standard comic specs as below...and, yes, you can have the first or last (or both) as a splash page if you want.

Standard Comic Book Size:

--Trim size: 6 5/8" x 10 1/4"
--Live art area: 6" x 9"
--Bleed size before trimming: 6 7/8" x 10 1/2" (1/8" in all directions)

This thread will be the place you ask questions on this challenge, trash talk, post WIPs and your final art. See the READ THIS FIRST thread for all specs.

Good luck.

P.O.W.! Challenge 7 will be posted before Tuesday Midnight, March 4, 2008.

I was born ready ;)
Thank god, I have some free time at the moment. The theme looks promising.

Hope I'm following the guidelines right.

Assuming that you'll have additional pages...looks close enough for government standards to me... :P

will this round be cancelled if nobody or only one contestant is entering?

Melonby

Well Z, I've got an entry almost finished, so assuming you have too, not an issue!

congrats Melonby

I had my idea only today a 8pm when I was in the tub. I even made the plan for the story (three pages), but it was already 10pm, when I started pencelling. And I don't want to sit on it until 6am, like I did last round, so I cancelled it. :/

The problem with the quote-topics is, that I am really blocked by it. All the two weeks I know the "Ready?"-topic, now, the whole time I was trying to create a little story about "Ready?" not a story with "Ready?" inside it. Only today I got a little idea.
But I think I'm not that hardcore to go to bed at sunrise again...

Would another day or two help you out? If so, consider it done.

WOW!!!! I like the idea for this challenge... I was wondering when some kind of storyboarding challenge was gonna' pop up. I wont be able to participate on this one, but I will be back to help out...

I can get something in with a couple of more days. I had to go to
Arizona to do meetings last weekend.

Anybody who doesn't like this entry and didn't enter themselves can just go pound sand. Edited to add: These are finals.

I have a lot of day job stuff and have to go to Arizona again this weekend on business. Somebody else step up and make this the cool competition that it can be. Edited to add: What I mean is it would be a mega-pain in the ass for me to get something done for POW 7 by next Tuesday so I hope somebody else is making something.

I'm holding off posting the poll just a bit...in case anyone's almost done with something. I wouldn't notice it's late...because...I'm picking my nose...and other busy stuff...

Updated the post above.

I'm utmostly sorry I couldn't finish my plans :( I liked my idea and working with ink. I wrote an exam and tomorrow early morning until sunday night I'm off for the bookfair leipzig. A small comic of me is published in an anthology, it's out in stores here, now. Maybe people want my autograph ^^°

Count me out if the two-page version is not enough.

Thank you, Ilaekae, for delaying the deadline!
Somehow, we must draw more people to POW, shouldn't we?

I'm glad you like the sky, Melonby. Those first two pages are both cropped out of a 14" x 17" pen and ink work that I was working on during the week anyway. I have about 30 of them planned out and that was the third.

The tourists in my home town are into cowboy art so you folks are liable to get a bunch of that kind of stuff out of me even though I couldn't personally give a damn about the whole cowboy thing. I'm just in it for the skies, mountains and trees. I'll try to do compositions that make it easy for me to crop splash pages out like this so I can reconcile these two time consuming interests of mine.

My dissatisfaction mostly stems from the fact that I have enough trouble with figures as it is without having to dash out a page of them in a day or two. I gave the wrangler an asymmetrical head (and what's up with those jackboots on the cowboy?) His hat is kind of hovering above his head like a flying saucer. (I hope it's fine to trash talk about your own piece. I wish I had enough time do better is all I've really been getting at. (not talking about extensions but instead that my life is so busy))

At least I've learned this week that it is amazingly difficult to erase charcoal marks back off of smooth bristol board. Luckily I can hide the traces of it in my stippling.

HugeHarHar is a first timer. People can see that we are here. I just think they are intimidated. I think the big event coming up can help because there will be more pages to elaborate on a story and make it more than random snatches of dialog cropped out of some bigger story that nobody gets to see.

I'm going to post what we have. I agree that we need to get a few of the big mouth "I can't wait!" types to cough up, so I'll be working on a lot of blah-blah rabble-rousing over the next couple of days.

To those of you who have supported this idiotic venture from the beginning and came through when you could, a great Heart-Felt thank you...

Attorney, if you're that desperate (oil paint), I'll get something together for this one, too. We DO have a whole four days, afterall... :P

Guess we'll have to show 'em how it's done...

Well, the oil thing didn't work out, (client in Phoenix changed meeting to Sunday) but I think I will be able to get something done in pencil or charcoal by the end of tomorrow. I'm just trying to work up a concept I can do a good job on. (You know, that uneasy tension between cranking out something .. anything ... and avoiding a generalized degradation of the activity in the process).
