Edit: This sketchbook hardly receives any critiques. So I'm not updating it anymore. I don't own scanner and paying 10 euros for every update of unfinished studies is no option for me.

Thanks to everyone who spent time here to critique me and give me good advices how to improve.

Bye!

Cool man, that's awesome that you did that with only a mouse, I wasn't impressed by it until I read that part. Put some of those commandos-swat-super hero guys up! =P Keep drawing and posting like crazy!!!

Thank you!:teeth: Just need to say that only the first one is done only with mouse. The others things are either traditional or just colored in photoshop.
I played some more yesterday with it and that's what came out *lol*

I agree with lostinthoughts - give your drawings depth, they look flat. I'd like to see some studies from life and anatomy studies. Keep posting!

l0stinth0ughts & ItalianHorsey: Thank you for the nice advice! :) I really higly appreciate it!!!
I'm curently working on the depth thing but well...how to say it...there is no progress at all...still...I really would like to give more depth to my pics and I'm trying hard which means piles of drawn paper around.:bashful:
Just now I'm stuck in technical dificulties like lack of scanner and time...that's why I'm not really able to update that regular I want ( I pay for every scan I make *ugh*) but I promised myself anyway that I will draw everyday to keep myself in form.:teeth: Cause I had a one year away from any drawing and then when I came back to it I wasn't even able to hold the pencil correct...so now I'm trying to draw every day.:)

Here one old pic...That's the best example why the proportions are very important ( I failed here...)...the whole piece was planned to take only one standart cardboard ( I badly needed a big rammstein "wallpaper"*lol*)......but because of my lack to proportion the things right I used 6-7 and the drawing became a wall big...I was a biiig Rammstein Fan back then...I still am but not that BIG.;)

If i might say , you have a still sketchbook , rolling in one direction . Really dig the last one , its made on a wall? Anyway that agent guy with the broke nose , you should construct them bather , i advise to stop using opaque brushes, and go mate. And for beginning, make them in gray scale to understand to values , you have major problems of anatomy and color. I didn't read the comments entirely, i noticed that you are proud ( a little bit to much) , and Kane , at first you added the same color as his skin is, but in the second you tried to remedy that, goo deeper , more color work the shadows on his face ... your are being afraid. Good luck! for now

Thanks for the crit!:)
I really should mention about the "proud" thing- I'm ONLY "proud" with Kane and ONLY because the Kane guy is done ONLY with mouse which means I have not used a tablet( I even don't own one*lol*). I just grabbed the mouse and drew directly in photoshop -in a new blank canvas without scanning anything. That was what I'm proud of.;) Of course may be some proffessionals will be able to do it better even only with a mouse. That's for sure.
I don't think it is great or stuff and I'm completely aware that all my art( uhm..ok...not art.... things I draw :teeth:) is not that good it should be or even not that good I want it to be . That's why I'm asking for opinion and crits and to know where I should put more efforts and to develop my drawing abilities.:) I'm working to improve, now every day.

Cool sketches man. Watch you don't over do it on the background with your pencils though. Those last two sketches lack decent contrast and therfore depth because your values for the background and chars are too close.

Keep it up, can't wait to see more

@ Dreln: Thanks for stopping by!:) Oh, yeah I have this problem with the values and the flat looking pictutes...Working on it!:) Though, till now, I'm still fighting ( it is harder when one fights alone to learn how to fix the things)...:D Hope they will come out right eventually.
btw I made another scan but I'm not sure if it makes them better. Here they are...

Hmm I ain't easy working art with a mouse. But would try to approach it like pixel art. eg. I would Paint large surfaces with a big brush with some texture in it. then build it upp from there. try to work in grey scale first then when your are satisfied with the values. Start coloring on a layer with overlay on it.
good luck and keep hunting.
btw I like your drawings!

if i had to give you some advise as far as pencils go it would be to not depend on smudging so much to shade. When over done the smudging tends to look meesy and takes away from the overall composition. Practice controlling your pencil by controlling pressure going from darkest to lightest. Your image will take a little longer and it will take a little time to get used to, but it will result in a better composition and give you more control over the final result. I have stopped buying the those expensive pencil sets and now, at least for the most part just use a number 2 pencil. Otherise you are on the right track. keep up the good work

keyu6215: Thank you for stopping by in my sketchbook and the really helpful advice ! I will try to use it next time!:)
I noticed too that my smudging makes my drawings to look dirty. I'm working on that problem and hopefully with lots of excercises it will be solved soon!:)

chuck18mp: Thank you for stopping in my sketchbook!:D I'll try to keep it updated!

my "speciality" is anatomy (I'm a beginner at drawing, but it seems I have an eye for anatomycal flaws and I usually crit such things :)), so I will talk about it. the not-whole-body pictures are nice, but the Replica Solders aren't quite right... the center guy definitely has a too short left arm, maybe the right solder too. the left one has a bit too long upper arm and I'm not sure, partly because of the armor, but maybe his head is too much to the left and I can't read his pose, it's a bit awkward.

I like the two pencilworks in #14 (especially the first, it's lovely, and the expression on the face in the second), well, the lines could be cleaner, but apart from it, they're nice, it seems heads and faces are your strong point, it's good, you are able to make a characteristic face :)

the Rammstein pic is nice, you can say you've made something big already ;) I'm a Rammstein fan too :rocker:

..I suppose that I'm better at faces because that's what I usually draw. I decided just recently to try to improve my drawing in all aspects I can...starting with whole figures drawing. Obviously my first attempts are not that good...:D I'm working on that part just now. You are right! The replica soliders have anatomy problems...I hope that excercising about this weak part, I would be able to make them look better...and fix the mistakes. :)
And yeah, my lines are not clean. You have a good eye for this things!:)

btw That pic whit Rammstein doesn't exist anymore [I had no place to store it after I took it off the wall] , but it was a nice experience when I drew it. Good to hear you are Rammstein Fan too! :rocker:

I like your drawings. I am always looking at design and anatomy, but the last post talked about anatomy. I'd like to see some stronger/ cleaner/ crisper dark shapes, this can help your compositions. It really helps me when I'm drawing to start by focosing on the large shapes and then filling in details, and to block in shadow shapes. Keep it comming. :)

I'm still really confused till I work on my studies because I have lots of things to fix and I always end up with forgeting something :^^;:
It seems that shadows next to the body anatomy always were my biggest problem...I was always afraid to make the things very dark...and I'm still bound to that bad habit....Hope that practice can cure it!:)

hay some of this stuff is cool...you should try doing some anatomy work it will help you with positioning your characters... also when coloring use a circle motion and do a light colours first and then darker this will and depth to your work

Here one of the soliders colored...It 's old work.I think that when colored the anatomy problems are even more visible...Bad that I see it first after it is already scanned...:/ [ no free scanner I fear...]

Seems like some of your images could use stronger light. There are a few pieces, such as the last in #16 that don't have a white, so you're not hitting the full range. You have it mapped out practically as it should be. Maybe you can just go back with an eraser and mark the points that are exposed to direct light.

Great sketchbook so far!

Good start, keep posting! One thing though - if you plan to continue doing digital painting, seriously... invest in a tablet, even the cheapest ones are a huge jump from the mouse. You may be able to color with a mouse or do vector art with a mouse, but a drawing/painting done with the mouse will always look like it's made with a mouse. Why fight against the tools when you can focus on the technique? ;)

AgentAlpha

Thank you !:)

as for the tablet- The cheapest tablet is too expensive for my finances right now. I already thought about that, but it will be somewhere in the futuer if I get rich.*lol*

I have a friend who do awesome paintings only with mouse. I want to achieve that level before go to tablet.

But I agree, that for people who work as artists , having a tablet is essential.
I'm just amateur.
Thanks for the advice ! :)

Well you might end up with wrist injuries from trying to paint with the mouse but good luck. Could also just stick to traditional media untile you can afford a tablet and such. Skills will transfer easily. I was dead set against a tablet too, even tried one and thought it sucked but after seeing what was done here in these parts I sucked it up and now I love the little bastard!
Keep up the good work

AgentAlpha

I know about the wrist injuries...:( But I'm not really a digital art person anyways although I think that the digital art is awesome. I just do some stuff for fun when I feel like it. I mean I never spend hour after hour doing digital stuff with mouse. Everything I did until now was done for a long period of time. I'm getting bored too quick I fear.*lol* Hope to get better though but not my main goal. And I think I spend too much time with mouse alreadyanyways so I can't afford doing it for digital painting too .( alarm: the wrist injury thing )

Well If I had a tablet I suppose I would love it too. :D
Anyways I will always be traditional mediums person although I'm not very good here too. :^^;:

I'm not oposing or something. I think you have right!

btw Thanks for stopping by! :)

Yeah, her hands suck...Other parts suck too, some errors in the shoulders, a little flat and stuff and the scanner just made it "better" taking all the dark away...xD....Next time - hope better.... I should focus on practicing the hands and the rest of the body I guess. ( after I drew only portraits all my life..... :P )
