The only experience I've had with the elysian fields...is hearing about in a city building game called "zeus" ages ago....dunno if anyone ever played it.

I looked it up on wikipedia, and there's an entry in there that says Elysium can be described as a paradise, according to some religious belief. Hope that helps, as that was what I'm going with?

Unless we really do have to go with the idea of Elysium being the final resting place of the heroic and virtuous. Then I'll have to think up something else for what I want to do.

Either way, I'm definitely going to try to get in on this one, my artwork has remained stagnant for far too long.

The Thumbnail i went for!

the Statues marks the end of the world. those who still are alive cant see it. its close to the bermuda triangle. which means its in the sea somewhere, which explains why there are waterfalls between the statues!

The Afterlife for Greeks and Romans wasn't a happy place like Valhalla/Paradise/Garden of Delights/etc. I tried to give the idea of a gloomy and eerie landscape where the souls of the dead wait for a sun which will never appear...

anyway changed some stuff here and there, mainly trying to create more depth as in previous version everything was right on your face..
not that detailed but I wanted to keep a traditional feel to it.

Revenebo Good work capturing the gloomy 'afterlife' feel. Maybe adding a few more spirits, and a greater value contrast in the mountains and landscape would create more interest in the composition =)

IssyLMG actually the lack of shades makes it kinda flat. And quite empty with just that bunch of spirits (I just wanted to complete it quickly, I wanted to bring it into Photoshop and create a "Spirit Custom Brush" to populate the scene but I had no time). Thank you for the crit.

I don't think that mine is a "dark dreary gloomy cold" place, its just not a wine & women Greco-Roman paradise. I'd like to think a Greek hero would think, "what the fuck?" upon entering Elysium. I just thought of a title for mine, "Elysium Failed". The irony is implied or imploded.

I decided to create something for this topic. Here's my WIP I started maybe an hour ago. I won't go to sleep until it's finished. I made a quick 3d scene, exported it to photoshop and started to block down some values. I'm trying to achieve a very dramatic back lighting. Then I'll just design a nice color palette and work with it and finally add some photo textures and make the final adjustments. It should be finished before 5 am:D

e. ok so I've got to get some sleep:D I'll try and finish this tomorrow.
