This is a battle of good and evil, of light and dark.
Join a team to draw for and battle in the topics, the teams art is judged by the comunity and the winning team claims that territory on the map.

theres a trophy case in the works that will go under the map on the first page, it will have the names of the high acheivers (good artworks) and rewards under their names that they pick up from each challenge area, ie: gold, loot, sculls, charms etc, basicly little icons and junk the rewards will differ for the light and dark teams.

all designed to get people drawing, and keep them drawing.

theres also a third team (the bandits) wich are like small clans of artist groups. but thats for later ;)

Cookiedough- That's a very cute goddess, she looks very happy and peaceful.

vibhas virwani- This could turn into a very nice goddess. I like her expression.
I think you should try to make her look more like a woman who lives in the woods.
Right now, she looks a little bit too urban for me, she might need some accessories that give her a ' natural' look.
You could for example think of doing something interesting with her hair and add some wood-related stuff to her dress.
Might be a matter of taste, but I don't like her earring so much.
Maybe she wears something that is more related to the environment she lives in.
These are of course only suggestions, but maybe they are helpful.

The leaves are real, these are tiny pieces of leaves actually.
I've forgotten to write what materials I used: It's indian ink, gouache, leaves and a lot of glue.

vibhas_virwani- You did brilliantly on the arm: maybe a little more tonal variation in the face would make it just that bit spiffier. Also, I know it's a pain in the backside, but if you drew the leaves on the forest instead of using the leaf brush thing, the whole picture would look that much more professional... Crits aside, I like your goddess, especially her hair :D

Wow, I'm really impressed with the WIPs thus far - can't wait to see all the finished pics!

vibhas_virwani- By tonal variation, I meant different colours. On the arm, you have lots of different flesh colours blended together, and it works really well. What I was suggesting was that you add more detail to the face by using lots of different flesh tones, like you did on the arm... Hope that makes sense :D

Awright, here's my WIP... Not very far along, I know... (A bit farther now, actually, I haven't gotten the latest file from the other computer.)

He's the dark god of the leaves. Yeah... He was picked on as a teenager, as he would go to the quad during lunch proclaiming his D&D title, "Dark God of the Forest." Now he has moved past D&D to WoW. He pays for his coke, twinkies, and electricity with his newfound job as a part-time maintenance man. Rake and leaf-blower in his meaty fists, he is the "Dark God of the Leaves."

Crits and tips are more than welcome. It's kind of small, though... It's more to show y'all what I'm doing than anything.

Ten awesome points to Snarfevs for his handy crit - I've got lots to learn when it comes to digital 'painting' (rather than colouring linework) :D

nice job muffin!
the glowing head really works well as a focal area. two things though:
to finish it off, maybe try to u^p the contrast of the face area just a notch
and the red giant leaves work well in the composition, but they feel a bit pasted on to me.. most likely because they stand out in terms of color. if you could make them blend in the environment a bit more (eg have the yellowish glow work on them, or use a bit more of that warm/cool color effect)

i'm rambling.. just got up after a three hour night because my kid was screaming for donuts... forgive my lack of comprehendable bladderings ;)

Posting wipsors (for some reason i have not got the permissions to do attachments, so this is hosted at my end). The concept being that this light side goddess is on a futuristic settlement ship in deep space. After the annihilation of earth, a ship called GAIA was sent away carrying specimens of earths Flora and Fauna, to repopulate a habitable world with our creatures. The stewards of this ship came to be known as 'Godesses of the Leaves'.

- ActsOfBob: Pretty cool, really pushing the edges of the gamut there though.

Snarfevs, I love the rendering on this, but it doesn't say "terrifying." Can we see its face?

Snarfevs - as always, the background sets of the foreground brilliantly. Hoorah for the inclusion of an extinct plant species! Veiny/leavy pattern on the skin = This is gonna be long so I've shrunk it :P
.3 px brush on layer above skin, 'overlay' light green, followed by .1px brush of linear dodge, gaussian blurred, another line of 1px brush of linear dodge, followed by one of multiply, and final go-over with 'linear dodge' on the corner bits. Duplicate to a second layer, use smudge tool to blend the bottom layer into the underlying skin, 'sharpen', then merge all of it down to skin colour. Some more smudging, then some more highlighting with a .2 px brush set to 'linear dodge'... Then when the pic was nearing completion, some orange highlights added. I think that's pretty much it...

TheJester I really love the dynamic pose and perspective! The way the leaves come from behind him and zoom toward the viewer is really effective :D

ActsOfBob Gorgeous colours, ten awesome points for the subtle addition of supporting humanoid figures- faeries? sprites? - they really put the god's magnificence into scale :D

Jake Kobrin I would NOT like to meet your god in a dark alley. I like the way you've made the sections the trees grow out of look almost inflamed - skin wouldn't react nicely to plants growing in it :)

If it looks better I might blend the two presentations together. I imagined the front of the helm to be composed of three leaves which can come together to form a completely closed shell, or split apart to reveal the face underneath.
