I'm moving to La in two months and I'm looking for a good place to take night classes to brush up on my traditional figure painting and drawing skills. I already have a BFA (from Ringling) so I'm more concerned with being challenged then getting credits. A friend recommended The Art Academy of LA... anyone know anything about it? Anyone have any other suggestions... are there any good art guilds in the Valley?

The place I was asking about is called Art Associates, art academy of LA (http://www.associatesinart.com/). Has anyone taken classes there?

Hey, welcome to the area. Besides Associates there are some other art schools around the area that you might want to check out too:
LA Academy of Fine Art (Sherman Oaks)
http://www.laafigart.com/
American Animation Institute (North Hollywood)

California Art Institute

Some Teachers I would recommand for Paintings are:
Mike Hussar - Advance Painting
Bill Perkins - Color And Composition
Jeremy lipking - Figure Painting

Kchen,
Wow! That makes my choice even harder.
I really like the stuff I've seen from LA Academy of Fine Art... How long have you been teaching there? Is Associates still around? I haven't been able to access their site in a while.
I'm really wanting to find a place to get really focused instruction in figure drawing ... I've been drawing the human form for years but its been a long time since I've had a really good instructor to critique my work and challenge me.
thanks,
mermuse
P.S. - I love the work you did on MOH Frontline. I wish we could have gotten you to do some work for us on MOHAA and MOHTA.

Hey mermuse,
Are you from 2015 team? Or Infinity Ward?

both... I used to work for 2015 but now I'm with Infinity Ward.
Do you still work for EALA? It's great to finally see your MOH work ... the only concept work we ever got to see was the Matt Hall stuff.

Nope, I am just freelancing right now. I'll be doing some character concepts and storyboards for Spark and some character design & maquettes for EALA. Hopefully, I'll get to do some paintings too :)
I learned a lot from working with Matt and Geez~ that man can paint!! I got to join in to help out with the character style and modeling. It's a big lost for EA to lose you guys.
MOH:AA is awesome and I can't wait to see your next title. Keep the good games coming :)

Cool... thanks.
Yah, we really enjoyed Matt's paintings!
So you're going to be doing work for both Spark and EALA at the same time??? That should be really interesting... :D

I think it will be fun to push two different visual styles to work with the game play on similiar topic :) It will be challenging and I think the two studios are going for different emphasis on storytelling and look. Should be two interesting projects.
From the post above, sounds like you are moving to Sherman Oaks. Let me know if you are in town :)
