EOW #74 Real world: your Neighbor's Backyard

DUE December 21 rd

Brief. your neighbor's back yard. i want a real place here. include a photo of the view if possible. If you can draw or paint directly from the site. do so. If you need to photo and ref.. make multiple sketches that can work too. But make it interesting.
Part of this is not getting arrested as a stalker.
I will be very flexible on my definition of Neighbor and my definition of Backyard. for urban dwellers I would suggest Alleys, vacant lots. Dumpsters things one normally doesn't look at.

DESCRIPTION REQUIRED..just tell us where you are. Not detailed enough for stalkers

required elements

description
ref pics or thumbnails

this could get someone in trouble if they live next to a school, or a nuclear balistic misile base:)

Wha.... hell no! I live in the city-center in a huge building consisting of flats! Should i draw the dumping area or the parking lot? No way!
But.... at night, it looks quite nice when i take a look out of my window and see the enlighted streets.... is this also possible? It´s no kind of backyard, but like you mentioned, i´m a urban dweller....

sure.
the intention is to look at something real that you might not usually pay attention to . and make an interesting image out of it.
but take a good hard look at that dumping area and that parking lot. with clever composition and creative use of materials you might be able to make something out of them too.

I'm excited to do this, but I'm spending this week driving cross-country. Do I draw the back of my car? I don't really have anything that won't be changing daily. Looks like I have to sit this one out :(

I hope I have time for this one. We have some beautiful backyards here in Hawaii.

Mwuahahahhaaa!

That's alright. I lived in Cleveland Ohio for 12 years until I moved here. I saw plenty of that snow too.

why not? Urban landscapes can be some of the most evocative there are. Catch the parking lot in the early morning or just before dusk when the lighting is the most interesting.

Here's a couple of ref's for you:

So I actually think I am going to do this one!!! I am already starting on a painting for a Christmas gift and it is close to what I see from my backyard... You will just have to suffice with a decent photo of the work though, hope that's ok!

I like that its a real world topic this time.
Its kinda nice to draw from your memories rather than your imagination for once.

Anyway
Here's mine:

The neighbor's backyard has a place in my memories as a quiet and timeless place. It has always been more or less the same,
because no one was ever there or cared about it at all. Iv'e seen this environment in all the seasons,
and though it isnt of any importance to anybody, it still prints a clear picture in your head.

Note: The squirrel and the portal-ish place that its standing in are fictional :P

Vix: contrasty! =)

I live in Oporto at an apartment. My direct "neighbor's backyard" is my own front door so i got out and drew this from nearby neighbors. I was almost hit by seagull's shit while drawing this.. LOL! (i live near the river and the sea)

sketch:

My final:

I usualy travel in the trains that go by those railroads, though I have never noticed that set of stairs where i drew this. Once you're sitting on that same set of stairs, the first and very things you notice are the railroad and the trains... there are different trains.. When i listen to the sound of a carriage riding the line, i try to imagine what kind of train will apeear... I'm sure my neighbors can tell what kind of train that is, just by hearing it's sound.

Here's my daughter walking through a path in my neighbors backyard. It leads out to the street behind our house. This was at sunset.

Final

My neighbour and me have more or less the same view of the backyard of our apartments block. So I just took a picture of what she sees watching out of her window...
No time to paint the cars, sorry...

revenebo: Very cool. The colors and lighting are very nice. Only thing I notice is that you could tighten up the hedges by the parking lot in front a little. Even if you didn't it still looks good.

That's true, I realize it now. They're out of proportion, I didn't pay attention to what their actual size could be.
About colors I must confess a thing: I USED THE COLOR PICKER. Sorry, I'm not good at sampling colors just looking at them... Still training...
