Muzz, welcome to ca.org. congrats on starting a sketchbook so young i wish i had done the same.. anyways, you need to flood this thread with images before people will take the time to look at and comment on your images...

when you say things like "And many more, But for now thats all im putting on. Crits please =]" it makes it seem like you your not giving us your all... if you have more then post post post...

As for your current postings, i see a need for you to consider a few things when you next draw, mainly, lineweight... tone... lighting and shading... i know it sounds like a lot to do, but if you keep these things in mind when your draw you will notice that the smart art choices that you make will develop your own personal style and raise the quality of your work.

Now... as for posting the longest comment yet. i think i deserve a few pics from you, i think twenty new images should satisfy me ;-)

After a long boring and painful process ive found a way to get my tablet files into jpg's.

I have to get them on my screen, take a picture, upload the pic, resize it. upload it again. And more. So if you say i dont try hard enough you can...Well i cant really say it on here...

Obviosly they dont look as good quality, But you get to see what stage im at, Kind of..

Nice one mate, keep at it, I reckon if you push yourself and keep practicing at your age you'll be amazing by the time you're 20. So keep it up, like the other say, gotta keep doing different mediums and life studies, something which I seriously need to do myself...

dude, you got some amazing talent considering your age! you should be proud! I noticed how you haveshading, reflections and highlights on your halo character, that's really important especially to learn it at a young age. I think everyone has practically said it all, use referance, there's no better way to learn than look at some of these guys' threads, alot of them have some amazing masterpeices that anyone could learnALOT from. So I advise you to continue to push your self and to keep drawing everyday and always look at other styles and creativity.

Good luck bro!

(keep posting) :)

Perfect age to start. And don't slow down! While criticism is nice, it's going to get you a lot farther if you just keep throwing down the work. Practice is your best way to advancement. There really is not much sense criticizing someone who is just getting their bearings. Everyone is going to struggle at the beginning, no matter what kind of comments or criticism you may get. You may not even be able to apply the criticism that may be given to you until you figure it out for yourself.

As said before, look at other users works on here and study how they use line, shading, composition, etc. for ideas to improve your work. Read books, draw all the time. Eat, sleep and dream art. The only thing that will hold you back is yourself. Keep at 'er.

hi,You should try and draw from life as others have said.

It will really help you understand how to create depth in your pictures.
keep up the good work.and post more.

thats the thing dude, try to use the time you have now at your age.
I mean I'm 17 and I wish I could turn back time and have had done, studies and stuff and really focused on improving.
I only started trying to actually learn stuff last year.and if i am were to compare my drawings that i can do now to those 2 ive improved so much, and thats mainly due to doing studies.and working more seriously.
The problem is now i dont have much spare time between school and hours of homework, music social life etc.I assume your like what i was like at 13 and dont have that much homework.Im sure you have spare time,Try and use it seriously,or you will regret it like i do.
your going to improve tons really quickly if you put in the work man.:)

i agree completely with curehead. this time you got is a huge asset, if you use it efficiently you'll be heads above everyone. you gotta push though. get a small sketchbook something you could put in your back pocket and wip it out as much as possible. studies at your age is going to seal the deal for what ever artistic passions you may develope down the road!

See if you can find Burne Hogarth's book "Dynamic Figure Drawing" in the library or at the book store. I'm not 13 - more like my late 30's, but I spent a good part of last month copying drawings from it. And it's definitely helped.

This helped me with heads: http://www.anticz.com/heads.htm

And this helped me with composition: http://www.animationarchive.org/2006/11/education-fundamentals-of-composition.html

Have fun!

Muzz 2K7: What's up bro? I am glad to see you had a look at my sketch book and I apoloigize for the massive amount of stuff. I will unfortunately be adding a shyt load more so you might not wanna go back there, lol. Anyway I peeped some of your stuff and see you get down with some graff studies. Tight work, keep it up, and have fun with it man. Try and move onto to the more important studies of art especially if you plan on making a career of it. The graffiti is fun but it really doesn't pay, especially if you get down illegally and get all caught up in the system like dolphins in tuna nets. Alright bro, I laid it down for you. Thanks for stopping by and I am glad that you enjoyed what you were able to. Better luck next time if there is one =)

Hey muzz, good to see you posting again. 20 i said 20!...Eight more to go with my reckoning, lol.

I think that the 'elf' piece is by far your strongest yet. What you should do now, is decide if you want to take it further? If you do then i believe that you can make a really good image out of this piece. Depending upon the style you want to go with, i would say the first thing to do is to tidy this image up in photoshop by having this on a layer at 50% opacity, then on a layer above, go over the lines (only the important ones) with a single smooth stroke, you'll find it hard to start with, but if you have your brush set to size dynamics (pen pressure) then you'll be able to get some nice thick to thin lines, just by varying the pressure of the pen. The second step after this would be to lay in the general light and dark areas of the face... Have a bash, show us what you come up with and we'll all help you along ;-)

RandAlThor
March 24th, 2008, 05:11 PM
To further the tip above, i did a screen shot to show you what i meant about the layer stuff and the drawing over the good lines. You'll notice that in the second image we are drawing our lines on a new layer above the original sketch... once you have refined the lines you want to keep you can get rid of the original layer and keep the new lines... I wont draw over the whole thing for you, cos wheres the fun in that lol... and besides, im not 100% sure what you got going on above the eye? is that an eyebrow or a join between the brow and the ear...

any ways have a go... ;-)

Hey there again :P lawl,
I've not checked your sb in quiet a while ok kind of going to crits and give some advice. Please don't take any of this badly am just trying to help if any of it offeneds you please say. And also sorry for my spelling XD
Ok man if your really serouise about this you really need to start working you a*s of at this stuff. It's no use if you don't draw very much if you want to improve you need to be doing much much more work.
You haven't been posting very much and thats not good, you need to get down cracking with anatomy studies for starters
heres a link to some of Loomis's Book look at the one called figure drawing for all it's worth, it really helped me tons and am gonne go back to study it again because theres still so much i need to learn link---> http://www.placidchaos.com/AM/index.php?title=andrew_loomis&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1.
Second is you need to be doing more studies refernce, and life drawings
Use www.posemaniacs.com for poses and also just sketch a couple of gestures from there other websites are www.characterdesign.com.
There bridgeman's anatomy books i'll go look for the free links to it for you.
Also check out this website it's bumskee's it's greeat i really like it and always refer back to it because it kind of has the stuff that we're meant to be doing, life studies, gestures, anatomy and just life studies of objects and things like that.
These are the kind of stuff you should be focusing on now i'll be checking you sb every now and again :P and if theres ever anything i can help you with just ask i'll be glad to help
Just to make it clear again list of things you really need to do :P
Anatomy
Prespective
Gesture
Refernce drawings/ life studies
But just remeber the most important thing and the thing that will help you the most is to keep drawing everyday
peace lilnebo :P :}

March 28th, 2008, 07:48 PM
Man, if you really wanna improve fast and reap the benefits, you need to really buckle down and study. Set aside at least an hour, more preferably every day to draw draw draw! If you are serious about this cut out distractions like msn, TV and video games as much as possible, of course you can play them for a break. The real improvement will come if you practice HARD.

Also, it is evident you draw mainly to hear people say you are good for a 13 year old, hence the want for comments. While they are of course nice, just take on board the helpful advice being offered and you will be on the road to success. Good luck!

Miles_
March 30th, 2008, 10:06 AM
Hey man, I didn't mean to sound so harsh. I'm not trying to bring you down or anything, and watching TV and video games isnt a big part of your childhood :P. I'm 15 now and trust me I don't really miss them. Anyway all I'm saying is I can see that you are more talented than the average 13 year old but real results from here on out will only happen if you work for them. I'm not asking for you to do anything, just giving my two cents

Edit: Also, calling my advice 'shit' is just unecessarily confrontational.

enrigo
March 30th, 2008, 10:42 AM
Miles advice is definitely something you shouldn't overlook, and sooner or later someone will say something similar to that. It isn't about getting the most comments or anything but to try to improve.
It good that you're starting very early and if you keep at it, you'll definitely get good in no time.

March 30th, 2008, 11:09 AM

Well man guess me and miles put it down for you, we're just trying to help since we're about the same age as you and i agree completely with miles.
The comment you left him on his Sb shows the fact that you can't take crits and thats a bad thing no offense you can think good of your self and you might work hard for a 13 year old but you never show it really, it's advice you really gotta take aboard this pretty much about all am gonne say on your Sb because i wasn't trying to "Lecture" you just trying help but seems you don't take it that way.
peace
and start working hard

Ive been Neglecting art since a week or so ago. I decided to; as they say "bite it in the ass" and get back on the horse.

Changed my elf to male. It had something more masculine about it. Changed a few things, Also for now ignore the torso, Its unbelievably rough.

DAVEZILLA
April 8th, 2008, 06:51 PM
I've never heard someone say that before- lol :P
I've heard," Nip it in the bud..."

The nose is awfully large relative to the rest of his facial features. Also, the eye's arent in their correct location. There's a triangle shape: the top part is at the dip right above the lip, and the two sides cross the nostrils' center and then meet up with the center of the eye.

Keep drawin man- you're so disciplined even at age 13! You'll be quite the artist if you keep it up.

Something to help you with your grasping of 3D shaped would be to sit down and draw out 20 or so 5 min sketches of some round or angular shapes.
I used to do this with Eggs, seeing as how there very smooth and easy to come by.
I used to do a TON of these when I was first starting...
Good luck and I hope for more progress.

Hey muzz :} Great to see you back on track :P
Just need to see you updating more
Really good that you decided to do some anatomy.
Btw before you draw the deomon do some research and look for photos of demons (not really but drawn ones and stuff). Then your drawing will look pretty good and you would have an idea of what demons look like.
Good luck and keep it up

April 11th, 2008, 09:53 AM
Great that you are doing some anatomy study, keep that up!
I think you should focus on your line work a little more. At the moment everything is just the same weight and intensity, and it makes things quite flat. Try different line styles like long sweeping lines right through the form with softer lines for distant stuff and heavier lines for foreground stuff and see if it helps.

Hey :P lovley to see you doing some studies and work.
I must say i alittle bit of reference work of costumes or what ever you intersted in will help greatly.
First thing i just wannt ask what pencil are you using?
if hb their not very good for shading use a b,2b,4b their really great :P
Take you time and really look just shade what you see and ignore what you brain is trying to symbolise.
This will help you loads.
Just keep the great work up
