I have this problem when I am painting in photoshop: It seems that every time I choose a new color, an invisible layer is added underneath the one I was working on, thus I can not paint over the earlier color. I've tried all of the basics to fix this, save for reinstalling photoshop (can't find the disc just now), and I have no idea what's goin on. I'm using PS 7.0.1 if that helps anyone. Please help, this is driving me crazy.

Well, whet my whistle, I figured it out. Somehow my brush mode changed to pin light. Sorry for posting the new thread, I was just gettin a little antsy. Anyone know how the brush mode could have changed without me knowing? Is there a hotkey I may have ally pressed?

you could have pressed shift + alt + z instead of ctrl+ alt+z ...
that would change your brush mode to pin light.. instead of undo...
