Here is some recent art from a comp on GameArtisans.org...alot of fun...good practice. The idea was updating a character from before 1996...even more fun. I ended up picking Bionic Commando. I wanted to expand the character a bit and make it a little less a guy with a grapple for a hand and more of a secret agent with a high tech multitool arm. It was a blast. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks,
Brian

I like both pieces, especially the second one.
Bionic Commando is an overlooked game, one of the best of all time.
Sorry this wasn't too constructive, I'm mostly psyched to see anything Bionic Commando related.

Here's a little more from the comp...did a thousand sketches most of which I didn't post...designs for the guns, the mounted gun, etc...its a fun character...I wish someone would remake it.

That top model sheet is just beautiful! Very fluid and easy on the eyes. Nice job!

Crawdad-I'm glad you like it. I had a lot of fun with the technical side of the arm...wanted to make have as much character as the charcter itself. I wouldn't normally go that crazy for a comp but it was alot of fun redesigning this guy.

Great job makin' somethin' old new again. Fantastic prelim sketches and an excellent render. Brilliant lighting in the painting as well (badump bump).

Glad to hear the positive response...thanks. Yeah, I had alot of fun taking a old character and making him new. I'd like to do more of these. I appreciate the reponse to the sketches as well...I really got into that and had a blast sketching on this guy. Haven't had a chance to do that in awhile. Been mostly painting, so it was nice to focus on the tech stuff with just a pencil and paper. thanks guys.

These are awesome. I loved this game even though it was so hard.
Love the design and the lighting in the first illustration.
To be honest though, I'm sad that you didn't keep his wavy brown hair.. for me the character was always about the hair.

Very cool, I think your rendition is successful, very cool drawings and digi's all together, Bionic commando was an awesome game. I remember it took me awhile to figure out how to use the bionic arm when playing the game.

Ha ha! Awesome. I do kind of wish you got that cheap green suit from the game in the images. It had so much character. I miss that game... Nicely done!!
Cheers,

That was a great game, as was the game boy game. I 've long wish that it would see a revamp, the way so many other games get recycled. Great sketches.

how this works, huh? sketches are more interesting than the final result - illustration :)

The wavy brown hair and the original costume...well, things change. Thought this guy would be a perfect character to update now given the state of the world...however, the wavy hair and all that seemed grounded in the 80's a little too much for me...besides I wanted to make a dramatic change but still maintain the core of the character while expanding parts of him a bit too like the arm...not just surface changes. I'm glad that people generaly like it. I had so much fun, I'd love to remake this game...someone should.

Yeah I remember this game.. Played it a lot, back when I was a kid.. I like the first one.. The new futuristic character is nice.. You should do some of the enemies aswell..
Heres some of the soldiers from the game.. You should do the big guy 'Wired Gunner', I think he could be created into something cool with the futuristic looks..

if the magnet used is IN the arm, would it not just rip the arm off the user an the arm would find its way to the claw, without the body?
the magnet has to be in the torso, for balance, so the whole user can fly to it.

No, the arm is grafted onto the metal superstructure that runs through his torso...it is this metal superstructure that houses the shoulder cannon that collapses and folds away for his stealth mode. So you see the magnet in the arm works just fine.
Hope that helps clarify this. BTW someone mentioned the enemies and concepts for them...I'll have something to post in a couple of days...hadn't really thought about it but its fun for doodling some ideas. Thanks.

awesome! Great style, flow
I would love to see some other concepts on normal/expanded arm - maybe I have transformers on the brain - or maybe I am thinking of the weapon/arm explosions that happen in Ghost in the Shell - but your rendering and style are very cool.

Great concepts! I prefer Joe (- wasn't that his name?) well, bionic commando with the bright plume of hair reminiscent of the nes version, probably for sentimental reasons, but wetsuit looking version you concepted is pretty nice too.

I love those sketches too! Really great!
The painting is very sharp contrast and almost colour-less (Two colours over a drawing...), which gives it an unwelcome look in my eyes And the guy's thighs are very long, especially the furthest one. (imagine the back of his butt and see how long away his knee is...)

Cloister- It's a bit more than 2 colors...sorry it doesn't work for you. As for his leg...Bionic Commando has one leg longer than the other. Little known fact. lol. I appreciate the feedback.
